So, here's what I get out of Lainchan, and some ideas that were suggested on the mumble server. For the proliferation and survival of Lainchan, we should realize why Lainchan, itself, is quality. For one, kalyx has very good moderation, which prunes the shitposting, and he does a very good job at that. I think there's more to it than that. Or rather, here's what I get out of Lainchan, as a user. It is good for the same reason that the Secret Area of VIP Quality is good. At SAoVQ, there is the idea of "VIP Quality" which is espoused and implied by the design of the site, and all the users strive to post in a "VIP" manner. This is often compared to the Elitist Superstructure of DQN, which is "Elitist Quality". There's a sort of symbolic presence at Lainchan - the idea, the image of Lain is something that encourages quality posting. It could be said that Lain inhabits the chan, namelessly, but in essence. Compare it to /cyber/ on 8chan, which gets most of its posts from posters who consider themselves "cyberpunks" and is all about technofetishism and vain shit. Part of why I'm so adamant about supporting the Lainzine is that I feel like, of all places, Lainchan is sort of a center of a sort of "scene". I'd say, it's not really just about the anime itself, but about the fundamental reality which underpins much of what the idea of the "Wired" and what it represents. In the words of Timothy Leary, where it used to be "turn on, tune in, drop out", it's now "turn on, boot up, jack in". The Internet is now what LSD used to be, basically, and I think that Lainchan should recognize itself as a "scene", sort of like a subculture in itself, but one that brings that same vision of viewing the AFK world and the Internet without borders, basically just synthesizing a bunch of things that have already been said like others, like how anakata would say that he prefers the term "AFK" instead of "real life" when it comes to the Net. Hell, even the latest episode of Mr. Robot is starting to mimick some of the things I wrote in the lainzine, talking about "daemons" as aspects of consciousness. Point is, it's happening, whether we are in control of it or not, but we can choose to ride the wave if we so choose. People are sort of acclimating to this, the ideas are being generated slowly, from bits and peices all over the Net, but it's here, at Lainchan, that we can synthesize those bits and pieces, and break down the barrier between the AFK world and the NET. If it could happen anywhere in the world, it would be here. We're at a sort of point in human development where people don't know how to integrate themselves, to use the new tech. It's not recognized as being "real" or "tangible", but the younger kids, the people who grew up with the technology, are able to use it efficiently, because they acclimate to it without comparing it to any former basis, it "is" their reality. What I'm suggesting is lainchan fulfilling that role, as a sort of seedground of possibilities, and for the lainzine to be virally distributed to bring about a societal shift inconsciousness. It's my honest opinion that a place like this wields a large amount of influence, because these are some of the coolest, most out-there ideas I've come across, and it's very much "tuned in" to the frequency that has captured the global consciousness. There has never been a better time for something like the Lainzine to have been created. Some ideas that were espoused in the mumble server A guide to TCP/IP MDMA guide Things pertaining to a wired lifestyle OPSEC, anonymity and management of online personalities/alters How to spread ideas memetically Chaos theory Dumpster diving Hacking and penetration testing things Social engineering useful knowledge, guides to /cyber/ things! (The crypto guide was FANTASTIC!! as was the "how do I hack" article) A guide to Libreboot Attack surfaces and how to secure your computer, risk assessment I'm really gonna try to spearhead this with Way of Schway and I hope you'll come up with your own stuffs as well. I know you guys are strapped in tight, too, let's tap the Wired and let it flow.
