All the speed he took, all the turns he'd taken and the corners he'd cut in Night City, and still he'd see the matrix in his sleep, bright lattices of logic unfolding across that colorless void...

I had a dream when I was 10 about men in black robes with blank white masks. No eyes, no mouths, they had equipped scythes. There were many of them killing people.

I started to run and fell down, one of them was on top of me when I turned over, when he lifted his weapon up to swing at me and swing it at me, I woke.

I had a wet dream a few hours ago. I was with this japanese housekeeping girl in maid uniform near the courtyard of a empty mansion. She was laughing and talking to me while I was my unhappy self as in real life. Soon I think I asked her for a sexual intercourse and she was unsure because housekeeping maid. At this point I already knew it was a dream so it wasn't that great. I took her anyway to a bathroom that had a bathtub, slide the thick white door closed and our clothes were automatically off. I decided to penetrate her since I already knew it was a fake dream. A few tugs in her after a few seconds of pussy fucking I ejeculated irl on my boxers. Woke up and changed and felt almost the shittest ever.

I stopped dreaming around a year ago, but when I was 6 years old, I had this one dream that I could never forget. I don't even know if it was a dream or not, but It seemed so realistic, but impossible at the same time.
I thought of this as seeing myself as 3rd person. This is ridiculous, I know, but I don't know if it happened or not.
>5/6 years old
>at a relative's uncles house
>I think it was supposed to be a christmas party or something
>we were ready to leave, got seatbelted in the car
>being the annoying 5 year old I was I remember saying 'I left my cup in the house'
>so i recklessly go off the car since it hasnt started yet
>i grab a cup which had like a disney movie imprinted on it, I can't remember what it was but it was like a west kinda thing where there were bulls, cows and chickens
>i go outside of the house with my cup
>car is gone
>suddenly my maid is still in the house and take me in a ride in a taxi back home
>home was 1500kms away
>what the actual fuck
When I talk to this about my parents no one remembers a 'christmas party'
When I asked my maid about this she doesn't know a single thing

And then in real life, I had this cup out of nowhere, like, It was in my house
I'm not sure if I was dreaming or not, or whatever - it was some sort of weird phenomenon.
If it was a dream, does that mean the cup came into real life or something?
Is there some kind of philosophical explanation, or an actual word for this?

Sorry if it was hard to understand, I can't simply put it into words what I could never get rid off my mind.

There was one nightmare I had wherein I woke up on top of an altar in my yard under a magnolia tree, so I got up and tried to walk towards my house (I have a really really long path), there was water streaming down the path but it was not raining and there was a full moon which illuminated everything with this strange purple tint, and there were gargoyles everywhere.
I woke up upon reaching my door.

There was another nightmare where I was lying on the floor in a room which was empty save for a mattress laid down on the other end of the room, and a window over top of it which had no blinds but I couldn't see through it, and there was some little object on the floor but I can't remember what it was, or rather, it was not defined to me, just "blurry".
The room was also extremely dark and slightly purple, and strangely quiet.
And then there was a human-looking robot standing to the left of my vision who proceeded to rip her abdomen open, and when she did this, I woke up, I knew where I was, but I could not open my eyes or move or even breathe (though I was in fact breathing).

I've never even been involved in this lucid dreaming stuff, so I had no idea what was going on but I was not about to let fear get the best of me, I went back to sleep immediately after I woke up from this ordeal.
But just before I fell asleep I heard somebody say "Keep good quarter and good care tonight, the day will not be up so soon as I, to try the fair adventure of tomorrow," which I recognized as shakespeare and then promptly drifted off.

This type of shit never happens to me.

I tried to enjoy my nightmares more by appreciating the sense of fright, and critiquing my dreams in general as short films produced in my sleep. It worked at first, but my brain decided that scary dreams were too entertaining and switched to artsy and annoying ones. Lately I've had a few "someone walking in on my looking at weird porn on 4chan.", which I think is partly from reading supposedly worksafe boards while people are around only to be reminded that not everyone respects the idea of keeping said boards worksafe.

i had this dream two days ago.
it started on a construction site, suburb area, three or four story houses were build, they were all concrete without windows or anything else done yet. on the ground floor of a building, there was this 4m*2m room with a door outside and a window, mostly building tools inside. that was where i was hiding or living for the past few days, with a piece of amber the size and very roughly the shape of a goat skull. i sometimes saw things in first person, sometimes third person, and i seemed like i was soraka from lol. i spent most of my time trying to figure out something, tapping phone calls without equipment, roaming the area, etc. (i also met a woman lying on a mattress in a room, and everything in there including her had sepia color, like some photo from 1920. she lost her left breast because "a doctor removed it to sve her from cancer", but she told that actually it was the doctor's bear that bit it off, and the doctor just removed the rest so it seems legit). as i was starting to realize that i'm facing some people trying to achieve world control, i hid in another, similar room that was a little bit more hidden in the same building. again, i was tapping phone calls, reading messages, when suddenly i was caught with my associates: sona (from lol), random white guy, and morgan freeman. they also got the amber they wanted so much. the two captors were some average looking people in average clothes, and without word or reason, they started to kill us. first they tied the hands of the white guy and hang him by the hands in a closet-sized room with tubes and stuff, and then water started to pour down on him with such force that it tore flesh off. then they killed morgan freeman with random stabs and kicks. the next one was sona. they lay her on some table face down, and started to slice her leg about 3-4 cm per cut. the knife seemed to cut through bone like cotton candy, so they cut another slice every second. i was last, they taped my mouth and i wasn't allowed to breath through my nose, and i was laid face-down aswell so they could cut down all four limbs (without the slicing). i saw this part from first person, and weird as it is, i didn't mind much, except the lack of air. guess supports are used to it. anyway, likely after i died, mr freeman was somehow back to life, 30 years younger, and kicked the shit out of the captors, then went on a rampage with a minigun, shoothing random enemies and robots that came from all directions. finally he found a modern looking glass coffin with his old self inside, then suddenly in a meadow in the middle of a rain forest, and told his wife and kids that he's actually not 30 anymore, and he hopes that the old morgan will also do.

fuck summer, i guess

I dont dream often but i remember two nightmares.

In one there was a small, alien leech thing in the garden and i was freaking out to even think about its existence, i also had like amnesia and a numb feeling that something absolutely horrible was going to happen
In the other dream, me, my brother and a bunch of neighbor kids were running like hell from man hunters or something, with dogs and guns. The dream was a little messy, but at one point i was shot in the leg with a 9mm and my mom dug out the bullet. She was worried i'd be in pain but it didn't hurt, pretty awesome.

On an unrelated note, i once dreamed i was living in Morrowind and pwning some thugs, and it was fucking awesome.

My nightmares follow one of two themes. One is that I am forced to fight to survive, and I and others will die if I do not stop someone/steal back something I need to live/kill to eat.

The other theme is that I am infested. I have had horribly vivid nightmares of spiders crawling out of my skin, sometimes so many that I 'deflate' and fall to the ground like empty skin. But I never die.

That's probably pretty grim on both counts. Apologies.

This happens mostly when I have nightmares or when I'm generally entering a situation that I know I don't want to enter. This is obviously because I become conscious of the fact that I am dreaming and I realize I simply have to think of something else entirely in order to get myself out of the undesirable dream.

Of course, this is only possible if I realize that what I'm experiencing is a dream. It usually takes a long while to realize this.

I'm in some kind old torn-up hospital, or I think it's a hospital. There are people living here. It's most likely a post-apocalyptic setting, but we could be here for different reasons.

There is a woman, probably middle-aged, who carries around a baby in her womb. I know that this woman has been pregnant for well over a year or so. I think she is slightly insane for keeping the baby in her womb for so long, as if that's what she preferred – she's grown so attached to the baby that she never gave birth to it and simply kept it in her womb. You could even see the baby inside because her abdomen has disgustingly rotted away after all this time, slightly revealing a dark, abnormal figure inside. The thing's skin is dark and gray, and it has a large head the size of half the womb itself.

Eventually, she finally gives birth to it. Not because she wants to, but it's just been so long. She goes through the usual contractions and a lot of pain as a typical birth. The doctors try to lay her down on an old, dusty hospitable bed, but the creature emerges on its own.. Not through the birth canal but right from the womb itself – through the rotten hole. It simply sticks its head out and claws its way through. It's happening so quickly and so horrifyingly. But the most frightening part was its neck – it emerged from the womb behind it's abnormal alien-like head endlessly. I don't even think the creature was half-alive, I think it was dying.

I don't know if the mother or the baby survived afterwards. The creature didn't even fully emerge from the womb before I woke up out of horror.

I don't dream often, but when I do it's almost always a nightmare. I have a constantly reoccurring dream where i'm standing next to a couch with my late grandfather slowly dying on it. I don't remember him very well, he passed when I was 3. The dream is always in third person, it might even be a memory which comes back to me when I sleep. During the dream he reaches out and touches my cheek, I can feel the callous on his hands, it's rough on my soft cheek. He gives a faint smile and he dies right there. I may have been traumatized by this actually happening, but I can't be sure. I always wake immediately after sweating profusely.

First nightmare of my childhood that I never forgot
>on the end of my street in my jammies in 5 AM
>see 2 big trolls (before I even knew what a troll is from video games and movies…weird) and a grim reaper coming towards me
>cold sweat, frozen legs, chills
>they stop about 10 meters from me
>grim reaper points at me
>trolls start running with weird hunched posture at me
>I run all down my street yelling for help
>nobody is around
>come to my home, trolls 2 steps from my back
>notice my house is upside down
>somehow am able to climb up through the window
>somehow when I enter through window my house turns back to normal
>that is least of my worries since trolls are on the door pounding it the hardest as they can
>dripping in sweat and panic I crawl in the corner, waiting inevitable
>trolls brakes in through door, hurling towards me
>complete terror consumes me
>I wake up, my heart pounding like never in my lifetime, sweat
>didn't sleep no more that night
Although wasn't that scary in retrospective my childhood was dead that point onwards since my head created a scenery in which I experienced the inevitable death we all face.
From then onwards I became a strong lucid dreamer.

I used to have this nightmare every night for about a week straight. It was when I was maybe 7 years old and I slept with my door open so that I could see the hallway outside my room. At that time there were some boxes piled up in the hallway for whatever reason. The dream would start with me lying in my bed and hearing a fucking disturbing sound. I'd look outside my room and see the boxes in the hallway moving as if something would leap out from them and I would get a feeling of absulote brick-shitting terror. At this point I always looked away and I'd wake up soon after.

The most horrible thing about this was that I'd be in the exact same place when waking up, so I used to be confused as to whether it was actually a nightmare or reality, and whether I was asleep or awake.

After a week I suddenly heard that fucking 'creepy' sound again when I was awake, and it turned out to be my neighbour having some sort of weird, loud sneeze/cough and that pretty much killed the nightmare.

Had one in the past year or two. Total darkness in my dream, but I could feel a presence behind me, but it was familiar somehow. I knew it was a best friend of mine (not an actual identity, I just knew it was my "best friend").

Suddenly I began to feel uneasy as they grew closer. Suddenly, all at once, I felt them come upon me and plunge into my back, "heard" a great unearthly screeching noise in my ears, and woke up with my body frozen with all my limbs completely straight and my jaw locked open.

It was one of the most bizarre and frightening experiences I had ever had despite its simplicity. I'm guessing it was a result of sleep paralysis, but the way it played out, especially since the entity was supposed to be friendly and I never saw it…and the severe reaction I had to it. The noise is probably the most disturbing part I remember because it's so hard to explain how it sounded or what cause it.

Used to have a bi-monthly dream of being in the back seat driven by a chauffeur. Never saw his face, it was a bald man. The car seemed like a very cozy Lincoln towncar.

Never saw this chauffeur's face, it was a bald light skinned dark guy, couldve been Pakistani or Black, dont really know. The weather outside of the car was a gloomy marine layer (my favorite). He drove thru alley's with tall garage's facing out into them.

Not once did i feel endangered, although i was never able to speak or get out of the car. I was literally trapped.

This series of dreams began mid February of 2013 and were noted to have subsided in November of 2013. I had the above info jotted down in a notebook, did my best job neatly paraphrasing.

I had a similar one when I was very young. It started with me already strapped into my car seat (the ones that go over your head and between your legs) which, I should add, I wasn't able to unbuckle myself when I had this dream so I felt helpless.

I was a little confused that I was just strapped in with no memory of getting in or either of my parents actually fastening me in but I just accepted it, at least until I looked to see who was driving.
There was no driver, but the car was running and the stickshift was moving. That's when the panic started. I was being taken away from my home by a possessed car, or a ghost, or simply nothing.

My parents tell me I woke up yelling and crying. It's weird, because I was scared of the situation. I didn't get any kind of malevolent vibe from the dream, it was just the surreal idea of a car driving without a human, and without my family.

Not necessarily nightmares, however I keep having dreams of impermanence of which remind me of how immaterial time is, and how moments of the past can never be recreated nor truly experienced once more. Also keep having the types of dreams that are realistic enough as to confuse me as to whether they're realistic dreams or mere faded memories due to my poor memory. Seemingly started when I ran out of meds…

Not nightmare per see but I really hate dreaming about pissing. Especially the 10 seconds half-awake where I check my sheets for actual wetness. Happens 2 or 3 times this night. I'll take it as a reminder to not be a lazy ass and do a little something before going to bed.

And because I don't want to stain this thread with piss, one of the most striking nightmare I remember is the one where I'm prisoner in a spaceship, in a big dark room with large red glass panes. I'm locked on some kind of board, and my torturers drill holes in my back and fix some kind of exoskeleton to my spine. I felt actual pain all the while, and at the end of the process I became some kind of exhausted technological beast. I manage to escape with a girl who suffered the same as me and for whom I feel really compassionate.

I don't know if this is a "nightmare" but I'll throw it here anyways;
>Be five years old at Chuck E. Cheeses
>Climb into tubes to play (pic related)
>Come to a dip in the tubes and can't get out because keep sliding down due to slippery socks.
>Too stupid to take off socks, watch other kids climb by barefoot with no issues.
>Begin to cry.

Weird part; I don't remember how I got out of there, the memory stops there. I sometimes wonder if I'm still stuck in there and this is all a complex dream.

I had a weird as soykaf nightmare last night, where I and a bunch of strangers were infected with some weird skin condition. The visible effects varied from a lot of hair growing to a sort of elephantiasis, though only the face was visibly affected (for… obvious reasons), but then I was looking at everyone as if through a black n white videocamera, and the skin kinda blacked out in a blur, I was scared as fuarrrk and was unable to wake up for a while despite my effort

here's an old nightmare I've had

I was with my family at night time; we stood in front of our house with a fire lit and some relatives older. Conversation got to talking about a string of mysterious deaths that had been happening lately. What's more, my great grandma had recently died. I asked what happened after I died, and I was told I got taken away somewhere, like I was going on a trip.

Some time later, a bus passed by our street, making a terrifying noise and the stop display nonsense. It spun around the corner, and barreled onto our block. On the bus, I saw a few people sitting, including my great grandma. The bus came to a stop before my grandma. We pleaded her not to step on, and she was reluctant at first but we got her to stay behind.

Then the bus started to lurch ahead again. It veered towards us, and everyone ran out of the way except me, who it seemed to be chasing. I fell forward in some weird position, looking up at the bus (no driver, should add) and its screwed up nonsense display, about to die or whatever the fuarrrk happens to you when you cheat death's fuarrrking school bus before I woke up in a sweat.

I remember one vividly.
It started out like any other dream of mine. Not particularly scary at all. I was in this immense building, maybe a palace of some sort. I found this door that said "Do Not Open". I somewhat realized I was dreaming at this point. It just seemed so silly. Why shouldn't I open the door? What could possibly happen? After all, it's only a dream. I steeled myself, turned the nob and pushed. I never actually saw what was on the other side, I only remember feeling an intense fear sweep over my whole body, to the point of it being painful. It didn't feel like my fear, it felt like some unspeakable horror was assaulting my mind. I woke up soon after that.

Most of my dreams involve unnavigable mazes. That may be scary to some in and of itself but sometimes they really get me.

One time I was going to withdraw some items from storage. The building is basically a massive skyscraper, the bottom floor of which is this massive open-air space with a dirt floor. During the day there's a swap-meet there or something.

I jostle my way past the swap meet guys, who are a pretty rough crowd. They constantly ask me for stuff and I start to worry about being able to make it out clean with my stuff. Nevertheless I press on. I know my stuff is on the third floor but I can't recall how to get there and there's a very specific path you have to take. You see, the only way up to the other floors is by elevator, but on each floor the elevator panel changes to allow access to different floors. You aren't guaranteed to be able to start from scratch - floor 1 isn't always available. So anyway I start trying to guess, noodling around on floors 1-8, trying to get to 3. Each floor has a completely different theme and the elevator changes to match the theme. The higher you get, the weirder soykaf gets. The people on floor 8 are straight up freaks, and I can't even communicate with them. Eventually I reach floor 4 and I've had it. As luck would have it, it appears to be a school of some sort, and a man I took to be the principal in a nice suit talking to seemingly normal students as he walks is headed in my direction. I ask him if he can get me to floor 4 and show him my badge. He agrees and seems like a nice guy overall so I think I'm set.

He shoots us up to 14 and then 23. Going up that far makes me uncomfortable since I could barely handle 8. Next stop is 3. As the elevator chimes open the principal begins to vomit violently. As nice as the guy seemed I just want to get the fuarrrk out of there so I waste no time on helping him, wish him the best of luck, and walk out of the elevator without checking the number.

I walk out and this place is straight murdered out. Flickering lights, black tarp and rotting beams. All of the utility piping is exposed. It's an office building without windows and there's something unhinged about it. I look back at the principal in the elevator and he's this headless figure standing there in a trench coat and jeans. The elevator closes (I ain't getting back in there with him) and I press the down arrow. I'm on floor 7,900.

Everything is so quiet but I felt like I was being hunted by something.

Then I woke up.

When I've been drinking excessively for days and suddenly stop I have terrifying body horror type dreams. Sometimes I'm being mutilated by some disease or whatever and in others, someone else is the subject of the horror. In the latter it usually involves deformed people who's condition is not only hideous but painful and a source of shame. Wretched, wretched stuff. At least it happens in my dreams because I can wake up from those; other people get stuff like this while they are awake during the DT's.

I used to have these abstract nightmares a kid. I can't even describe how uncomfortable they were.

They always began from normal-ish and peaceful dreams. I got sucked into this surreal void that felt like another dimension. There was nothing except infinitely slow geometric things grinding forward in odd motions. The further they went the more uneasy I got. I felt soul-wrenching despair the whole time and it was like the dream was never going to end. I can't really pin it down anymore but it was like I had to escape from them but I simply couldn't so I just was there, suffering until I finally woke up.

Just thinking about it made my eyes water.

These kinds of dreams -- inexplicably terrifying visions of geometric shapes/mathematical concepts, infinities and nothingness, size, speed, and form -- are surprisingly common. Here is a huge collection of people who have had similar experiences:
http://www.dreamviews.com/nightmares-recurring-dreams/29794-geometric-night-terrors-@-fever-dreams.html

Dreams like these are mentioned in Oliver Sacks' fantastic book Hallucinations, and Vladimir Nabokov has recounted having similar experiences as a child. If you search for things like "weird fever dream" or "geometric nightmare", you will find people discussing these dreams all over the internet.

They are truly bizarre and made more bizarre by their ubiquity. What process could generate such similar dreams in so many people? My own theory is that they have something to do with activation of kappa-opioid receptors - the same method of action as salvia. If you read salvia trip reports, you will notice many similarities to these dreams. Abstract geometric/mechanical/spatial hallucinations & severe dysphoria. These dreams generally occur during periods of illness or extreme stress, wherein you might expect k-opioid activity to be increased (it exerts both analgesic and dysphoric/aversive effects).

It's odd how nightmares lacking any actual "scary" content can be the most terrifying merely due to a random emotion being attached to the dream. For me, it was always two-dimensional screens of varying color with meaningless arrangements of letters. Regardless, would scare the Hell out of me moreso than most "sensical" nightmares I've now.

Likewise, dreams that should be scary like when you're being chased by a murderer, just feel like watching an action movie. Some of the scariest dreams are ones I can't remember two minutes after I'm awake because they are so abstract that the memory doesn't survive into waking life. It simply has no place in a world of logic and physics. All I remember is being scared.

Most of my nightmares revolve around the passion of Christ. When I was a kid I was traumatized by a movie (not Mel Gibson's one, which came after). Most of the time I'm just a spectator to some crucifixion or flagellation. Just one time I was the victim of other people's violence and that was the most vivid and worst nightmare I've ever had.
Still today, I cannot stand Easter holiday because of that childhood experience.

I used to have this recurring nightmare once a week when I was 15-17.

It would always start out as a normal memory of the many car rides I shared with my mother usually on the way to my therapist. For some reason we were always headed west, out of our city, even though my therapist's office is downtown (east). An argument, that I can never remember, would start between my mother and I as we went over a highway overpass. As the argument started to escalate the steepness of the overpass would increase simultaneously. Sometimes my sister was in the car seated in the back normally not saying anything to either of us. The steepness would keep on increasing until it reached a ninety degree angle or close as the argument was climaxing. Sometimes the dream would end during the free-fall, and sometimes it would end before we fell. The really freaky part about it was that my mother and I would never stop arguing, almost ignoring the situation around us. During the variants where my sister is in the car I would always run to her room and wake her up and she would calm me down while listening me explain the dream.

Sometimes this overpass nightmare would transition from a similar nightmare where a burnt out shell of a car idles up my driveway and into my garage.
