zzz - dream

All the speed he took, all the turns he'd taken and the corners he'd cut in Night City, and still he'd see the matrix in his sleep, bright lattices of logic unfolding across that colorless void...

I often find myself wondering whether I'm really lucid or if I am simply /dreaming that I am lucid dreaming/.

Anyone else feel the same way?

What's the difference?

That's a deeper proposition than you think.

Yep, I had the same thought.
Maybe because my lucid dreams don't feel "just like reality", like some say. A difference might be the rational access to waking life memories, for example in a dream you may see your dead dog, recognize it and interact with it normally, whereas if it were a lucid dream you would recognize it but you'd also remember that he died.

Still that doesn't answer the question.
I think the main characteristic of a lucid dream is the capacity to wake up at will, but you can't test it without ruining the fun.

dunno if this is at all relevant but my father died a couple of years ago and I told my sister-in-law that I don't miss him because he still appears in my dreams. He's just there in the background, sitting in an armchair or something, speaking only when something needs to be said.

Then I wake up and remember, oh yeah... he's dead. I checked his pulse myself 10 minutes after his heart officially stopped beating.

Yeah, that's the kind of think I was talking about.

The other day I dreamed that I was trying to have a lucid dream but couldn't do it and gave up, then I started doing stuff in my dream house that was very different than my IWL house.
My subconscious must be fuarrrking with me.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I often have the intuition that I am dreaming, without a manifest awareness. It's hard to explain, it's kind of an acknowledgement of the nature of dream logic in the current experience. You then proceed to act according to dream logic (though in a dream I usually just follow along without deliberate 'acting').
A good example is when I dreamed I was in the future, and I saw a futuristic version of a recurrent image in my dreams, and thought "lol, just like in my drea... oh soykaf thismis a dream!" But I just kept dreaming without any intentional attempt to use that awareness to my advantage.
Anyone experience this?

Me, but sometimes it does become a lucid dream.
