>>4423https://github.com/nagadomi/waifu2xThanks for reminding me of this, it looks damn cool. I've had ago at installing it from the guide, but its not very clear on how about you go about using it, I'm gussing you have to clone the files and run them, but when I run:
>th ~/waifu2x/waifu2x.lua I get the error:
>/usr/local/bin/luajit: /home/will/waifu2x/lib/image_loader.lua:77: images/miku_small.png: failed to load image >>

My advice is to avoid using noise reduction. Just upscaling is enough most of the time. I don't know in the case of 8x, but for most pictures 2x will be plenty big.
I'm a bit worried about these upscaled versions ending up substituting the originals on booru sites. Is there a way to tell if an image was modified by waifu2x?

>>4425I use
https://github.com/tanakamura/waifu2x-converter-cpp personnaly. It is a C++ port using openCV, I recommend that.
>>4427That's a good point. You can tell when looking at the finer detail lines, they will start to blur as if been painted a bit, that's normally a good indicator, but with my example it already had that feel so it was not as apparent. If done on manga pages hatching becomes much more pronounced. So there are a few indicators.
A good idea would to have wifu2x put a tag in the picture metadata to indicate it's upscale ratio.

>>4426Yeah sorry, this is trained only on Anime pics like
>>4428 said.
However, if you have the know-how, you can do training on the system to use other types of image style but it's quite specific, so anime works well.
