Is it just me or has the fandom changed completely since the 80s/early 90s. It seems like these days there is an influx of delusional obsessives who swear that Japanese culture = anime (which is like saying superhero comics = Typical life in the USA). These same people act in such an way that is entirely the opposite of what collectivistic societies like Japan would find tolerable. I think earlier fans (many of whom were fan translators out of necessity due to botched and edited releases coming our way if at all during that time) had more of an appreciation for the difference between cartoons and real life. Some would use the more alien features of a show as an opportunity to explain and discuss things such as state shintoism, historic eras, folklore and the like. The medium became more of a bridge to pique interest in a society much different from what westerners may be familiar with. It seems like that curiosity you used to find in small conventions, usenet and web 1.0 has been replaced by those weebs who sperg out over the new moe craze and dream about living in the land of the rising sun without hazarding to learn anything about it.

I help run a stream. Usually it consists of old B-movies in the evening when the veteran streams, but from mornings to afternoons(in US Central Standard Time), I stream anime from the 1980s and 1990s. It is set to follow a schedule with "non-commercials" to fill in the gaps.
I run both English dubbed versions and Japanese audio with subtitle, depending on what I could get my hands on or what I thought of the dub, so if that is a point of contention I understand.

Personally I loved Eve no Jikan and Dead Leaves. Eve no Jikan is slow paced and it can even be considered a slife of life anime while Dead Leaves is over the top pantsu on head retarded (kind of like a flcl but in a good way) with amazing art style -

In my opinion, some of the themes and characterist it has are /cyb/ as fuarrk.
I mean, destroying a corp that wants to enslave everyone with their technology? Making artificial humans with the power of controlling others/traveling the wired? Playing a videogame with your robot pet that can possibly mindfuck you? Dating either a NEET hacker or a shy robot? The whole city, wich combines both lowlife elements and tech? Now that's some cyberpunk for you.
Plus, the artist honeylala is pretty good.
The only downside is that at some points it lacks good writting and of course it panders to fujoshi, wich can't appreciate anything but the buttsex.
Also, Koujaku and Mink can die. -

It's time to discuss a very serious matter that I think many people here are understandably uncomfortable talking about.
I know there are a lot of conspiracy theories and loonies out there but the fact of the matter is that the Federation is lying. There's just no denying it. They're lying to our faces as they've been lying for years now. They've been lying about where in the galaxy the ship is at. They're lying about the "progress reports". They're probably even lying about who was sent on the ship. The movies are a load of propaganda horse soykaf as well, any fool can see that.
You want to know what I think? I think the SDF-02 was lost from the moment it made it's first hyperspace jump. I think the federation made it purposefully from the moment we could start rebuilding. I think the colonization ships are a last ditch effort to ensure our survival.
There is something out there that the federation knows about. What's funny is that they've already given up. -
