Before I commit to qubes os I have one question. If I make a system image of my windows install can I run it as a template and run games on either the template or another appvm passing through either 1 gpu or 2 in crossfire?

Sorry, I wasn't quite sure where this thread belonged. I'm considering buying a 2nd AMD Radeon HD 7970 to run in crossfire. I found a google groups thread which makes it sound as though passing through a gpu or 2 is possible in qubes but I was wondering if anyone has practical experience. Also the xen wiki lists the 7970 as passthrough capable. It would be great to be able to do everything securely through qubes.

You can do that with any OS, check this guy's video and its description. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37D2bRsthfI

Thanks for the video. I understand this can be accomplished with another os or vm setup but I want to use qubes os for its security focus.

Do you have a link to the thread you mentioned?

Joanna discusses why GPU pass-through isn't implemented, and lists the potential solutions (c+f GPU):

TBH, use a separate laptop running vista with Trusteer and MSSE installed for banking.

Ideally you'd use another laptop, ipad, or spare phone (again with Trusteer MSSE) for shopping. Then if the police ask, you can just hand them the banking and shopping devices.

If you shop on linux, and get a rootkit, it's your fault. The bank can use it against you to refuse covering the fraud.

It's also your fault if you get a rootkit while using windows. Your argument is stupid.

No. If you have Trusteer installed, it's IBM's fault. If you don't, it's yours (and it doesn't run on linux). It isn't an argument, it's a fact:

No, if you get infected while having Trusteer installed, it's still your fault. Pic related is taken directly from https://www.trusteer.com/support/end-user-license-agreement . IBM doesn't give any warranty that you won't get a virus.

Heh, I should have kept on reading, there's an even more straightforward paragraph a few lines below.

 No.14401

That is the agreement between IBM and the user. What matters is the bank's TOS, which is going to include smallprint that absolves them of liability if you ignore their security guidelines.

If the bank tells you to use IBM's software, but IBM tells you that its software cannot prevent you from getting viruses, it is still your fault for getting viruses, as IBM told you that you weren't fully protected.

If I tell you to buy chromebooks because chromebooks can "automatically hack the NSA" (whatever it may mean), but Google tells you that you can't "automatically hack the NSA" by using a chromebook, who should yyou listen to?

It doesn't matter what IBM say. The banks pay IBM to develop the software. If IBM fails to deliver, it's the bank's fault for choosing IBM.

We're at cross purposes with the word fault. The legal definition in the bank's TOS is what matters to the bank, since following the their guidelines reduces your liability to zero.

Whether your personal skills and choices are statistically safer would be irrelevant in a court of law.
