I've been eying a T420 with Nvidia graphics as an upgrade to my shitty MBP. Any reasons not to? Gonna be dual booting Arch and Windows, and doing some light to moderate gaming.

yes nvidia offers no free drivers so you should avoid them like the plague.
you should also avoid windows and install a fsf approved GNU/Linux distribution.

The nvidia drivers are non-free. Nouveau doesn't really perform amazingly for gaymen.

Sounds like a good purchase for $300. Go for it OP. In linux you will need to use the Not-Open Source Drivers for your video card if you want to game. It's no big deal though. Which MBP did you have?

When they say non-free they don't mean they're costly, they mean they aren't open source and freely-editable and distrutable.

Technically AMD is a little more open, but if you're not really all that worried about using open source entirely, sounds like a steal for 300$.
