I'm kinda jealous, to be honest. I can build and dissassemble just about any desktop, laptop, rack etc. etc. etc., I know most hardware pretty intametly, but I can never seem to wrap my head around programming, and I'm soykaf at math. I can use terminal, and write batch files, shell scripts and the like, but nothing really more complicated than that.
Honestly, if you've never built your own computer ever, I'd recommend you buy parts and built it yourself. Even if it's just one of those Newegg bundles (which you can get a pretty good deal on
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2254081 )
just do it. Get your hands dirty. The first time you clamp down a heat sink on a processor is an awesome feeling, I can still remember it.
That first computer you build from party by yourself I can pretty much guarantee will be your baby, or at least it's mine. I don't even have half the same parts in it anymore but it's covered in stickers, I still use the same case. I just love it.
