If you want to know my thoughts on the board.
Looks like it's well feature but poorly documented.
If you got more time than sense it sounds like a great time.
Price is ok at the +$120 mark.
If you make a great project with, Please upload your tutorial.

However if it were me I would probably find a different solution that was better documented.

If so how the fuarrrk do you connect up the serial controler to command it? (mine is not playing ball - or i'm too lame) - wish I had got the one with onboard video controler!

What does beagle bone have over RPi? Other than core boot?

intel edisons runs yocto, and are pretty powerful (dual-core 500mhz & 1gb ram), with onboard wifi/bluetooth. compact as soykaf and you can get arduino board for it
the galilleo is more strictly an arduino-alternative
