Why DID trucrypt go under?

backdoors.

The developers didn't have the time to maintain it anymore.

Is veracrypt the new replacement?

I'm still using truecrypt. The securuty audits have shown that it does not have any visible security flaws.

Yes.

There was a serious flaw found in a driver quite recently, but I don't think it affects most users.

I think the fact that the Truecrypt team actually said you should not use it is a bit of wink wink nudge nudge. In it's current state it's fine for hiding porn from your family and friends, but don't use it if your goal is to protect yourself from the government.

Well, we are talk about the govt. from five eyes?/Russia/China or just normal country?
I think here the truecrypt is a good option for the normies. But I stay with my luks.

I live in a five eyes nation. I'd rather have the Russians or Chinese spying on me than the US, because the very worst the Russians or Chinese can do is ruin me financially. My own government can do far, far worse things to me.

So what do Lians reccomend?

Is there any encryption that can withstand 5 eyes (assuming huge password)?

Veracrypt

but that wasn't proved in the audit, maybe they were tired of develpoing it, or were forced to close it by a goverment or agency

>There was a serious flaw found in a driver quite recently, but I don't think it affects most users.
to be clear, it doesn't affect encryption at all. If you are running a malicious programme, that programme is able to elevate its privilleges, so it's very serious. But it doesn't concern encrypted unmounted drive.
