The wallpaper is a modified version of something I found in the last desktop thread, changed for darker colours and removed the text. I intend to replace the text at some point, but I can't decide what font to use.

Also, why v2? Did we hit the image limit?

Win10 is just worste. But all windows are spying on the user. It's just not clearly apparent like on Win10.
Even Win95 have the so called "universal" back door which allow Microsoft to induce an update on your computer that download all the tracking software.
You are an open Window for Microsoft. They can throw on you every they want, see all what they want, and if they want, can just cross it. That a joke (sorry).

It's a pretty damn well color, especially Magenta. Personally, I don't understand how you can dislike it with the whole 'neon' aesthetic, it's definitely a color that fits real well. I never really related with the whole "pink = girl color" factor mostly because that kind of stuff never went on in my household (and tbh im thankful for it)

I'm 10x sure they wouldn't care for it either, especially because I'm sure they care more for their thought that "I look like someone the NSA wants to come and silence" because I have a triple monitor setup

it's just the fact that pink now isn't suddenly a color based off gender roles, man

Hey, I'm >>12854 here to answer your question. The answer is relatively simple: I downloaded Rainmeter for fun while I am at uni, and I haven't had time to actually mess much with the configs. I don't have F or G drives, I don't have Chrome or Opera installed, I run Windows Keylogger 10.0, not 8.1 No fuarrking idea why it shows the Wii name, either.

I'm in the U.S., so I could change Celsius to Fahrenheit, but why bother? I am studying science, and I am pretty much only using SI units anyways. Might as well get more comfortable with Celsius. :3

What do you think of my wallpaper, and does it seem to blend with the rainmeter additions at all? I thought it seemed to, so that is why I picked that particular wallpaper.

Also, I can't wait until I get a HDD for my other laptop so I can start using both Windows and GNU/Linux or *BSD again! Again, I just haven't had the time and mental energy to go get what I need.

if you open a window in a floating WM it pops up at a random place and you have to drag it around with the mouse

it's potentially much more efficient to split the existing screen and later merge it again with your keyboard in a tiling WM

Hi Lainons.
I'm using this Metacity Theme

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Simple-Slim?content=68772

I tried to configure it to take off the title bar and icons in windows, and add an green border, without any success.

Now, I could add the green border but I'm unable to take off the title bar at the same time.

My terminal in first pic.
I'm almost there: only the title bar has to disappear.
Without the title bar, i expect to look like the second pic.

Which modifications do I have to make in the code to render my terminal just with green borders?

http://pastebin.com/1GvdAmmr

Thanks.

ok so i just got into i3 and so on myself
this guy has a cool setup https://github.com/electro7/dotfiles

it's for debian/i3

i made a shell script to install his soykaf faster, there was detailed instructions but i didnt feel like typing them in by hand

so you can just install a debian (without gfx) on virtualbox or something to try it out, log in as root and then run

$ apt-get install curl
$ bash <(curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mope1/dotfiles/master/netinstall/install.sh)

it will install some packages and my fork of electro7's dotfiles

it's still wip so your username is electro7 because he had his homedir name hardcoded somewhere in his configs, but my script prompts you for password somewhere in the middle

there is still some soykaf missing and some things i dont understand [1] so do it on virtualbox or a machine you dont care about

[1] i cant get iceweasel to start somehow (it used to work without lightdm and his configs), and how the fuarrrk do i copy paste from shell to vim and out again, middle mouse doesnt seem to paste in vim. and also i need to set up automatic username login in lightdm so you dont have to type electro7 or whatever you choose for username (once you can do that)

i dunno it wasnt there? no biggie man maybe they have only wget, after all those two can do pretty much the same, main difference being the defaults and flags

the debian base system is extremely bare and it even asks you if you want to *use network mirror or just the medium you just installed from*, like if you're somewhere in the desert and you whip out your usb stick and go like

THIS IS DEBIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

>Kalyx needs to stop blaming the Linux userbase as a whole for the soykaf on this site and ban the Archfags instead.
>did it ever occur to you that grouping people by arbitrary random things such as their OS is completely useless?

Claiming that anything is completely useless, particularly human classification, is a large leap to a conclusion. In fact, I'd say that the Linux userbase is at the very least people who have overcame their need for the security of Windows by various means, so it in fact IS a grouping.

The conflict makes itself known in that there are Ubuntu users that want all the answers, Debian users that want stability and security, Gentoo users who want to meme/tinfoil/be smart and user of OpenBSD that want to have jobs.

So yes, ban the people that are causing the problem. This will be a mix of users. Possibly mainly users of one operating system. Not that I'm actually advocating for banning users of one operating system, that would be a lack of understanding of the issue.

Thank you for the praise. It used to be gray on black, but I found that too strainful eventually, since I use that machine mostly in the evening and nights and therefore with rather dim ambient light. Orange was inspired by the PLATO terminal. It's easy on the eyes and still offers enough contrast to be perfectly readable. It wasn't much work, since I use hardly any GTK programs. dwm (the WM) and st (the terminal) use hard-coded colors, so they're very consistent. I wrote my own newsbeuter, mc and moc themes. Clean and consistent were my goal. I'm glad it shows.

yes but the thing is this

i dabbled with windows ricing
it sucked so much for so many reasons

* the config is a blob i think
* programs will take SOME RANDOM PORTION of your colors and ignore the others which results in unreadable interfaces
* at best some programs will blind you when you make a dark rice, at worst multiple programs become unusable because they ignore the font color but their user interfaces adapt to your darkish color
* i hate the old window design because it makes soykaf hard to click and fuarrrks with my alt-tab-keep-finger-on-tab-click-window-with-mouse power user move (try it, it rocks)
* the new design cant be riced and therefore is like kicking dead whales down the beach too (talking about win7 here, i dont win8/10)

I didn't enjoy using feh in dwm, because it doesn't tile well. Currently i'm using viewnior for viewing images, since it's minimal gui tiles like a proper window. I briefly tried feh with mc and opened images through the mc command line with "feh *", ie told feh to open all of them, or - in the rare case i want a specific image - "feh ctrl+enter", which copies the marked file's name into the command line. it was underwhelming indeed. hence i returned to viewnior, which fullfills my needs just fine.

One of my hobbies is playing games. Windows is perfectly suitable for that. I'm thinking of getting a thinkpad or cheap laptop soon just to use for web browsing/research. I will be using Linux or BSD for that job.
