What FOSS games do you play/like/recommend?

The only game I play sometimes is Brogue, a rogue-like you can play with keyboard or mouse, it's easy to learn (it's the Python of roguelikes), hard to beat, pretty chill for casual playing but can make you think about your next move for hours if you want to beat it. The coolest thing is that levels are generated randomly each time, like in nethack.

I remember seeing a similar game that was sci-fi themed, can't remember the name but it was closed source and still in development a year or two ago. It shouldn't be hard to make a cyberpunk Brogue fork, changing the creatures and item's names, right?

There's also Cave Story, if you like /cyb/ stuff your inner child will love Cave Story. The creator made other games too, but AFAIK CS is the only FOSS one.

P.S: there's also a thread for $0 games: >>2349

Nope, it was Cogmind, found the name in an old chatlog. It's in alpha now.

Yeah, they're a fuarrrkup with money, paying a lot for sound effects and doing all this early access soykaf . IMO the price is a consequence of bad development, they made it Windows-only so they'll have to invest a lot of time if they want to make a port (if they see profit on that).

Who'd be in for a weekly teeworlds match?
We could make a lainchan server or take over an empty one.

That game can get pretty competitive. The hook mechanic makes for awesome movement around the maps.

You can also hook another player like Scorpion's "gettova here" so yeah, pretty cool.

I like some of the fast paced FPS games like Open Arena and Nexiuz, reminds me a lot of Quake. FreeCiv and OpenTTD are good if you like Civ and Tycoon games.

If you're looking for games without DRM and spyware you can try emulators. Sure the games themselves aren't free software, but I highly doubt legitimate versions of Final Fantasy II and Prince of Persia aren't spying on you. Someone could craft a ROM that exploits an emulator bug so that's something to watch out for.

Just played Open Arena over LAN at the local hackerspace. fuarrrking amazing. Open Arena is a bit different than other arena shooters but it's definitely great over LAN if you have 4-5+ people.
