>>18847What if we could build a system from the ground up - not like anything designed before… Having input from every person in the system for the benefit of “the people”. Maybe that means profits go down, businesses change and markets will have to adapt, but a true and fair system is worth all the GDP in the world (especially if its not locked up in digital numbers, off shore somewhere remote, by the very few)!
My thoughts are in areas… Voting and Control.
If the internet was used as a 24/7 sculpting tool for government.
Each person is issued a user ID and login.. From hear they login to a gov. website and start voting…
Not for your favourite cheese smiler (like we do now), but on each and every-single voting decision normally undertaken by the politicians.
Real time votes coming in - like an ebay auction, up comes an issue and you have XXX days to vote on it. And like Reddit you can dive into all sorts of interests and sub interests to vote on.
If you are not knowledgeable about a topic then you will most probably pass and concentrate on things that you know about or are directly affected by.
The source code for the site would of course have to be open source and written “by the people for the people”.
All gov. employees will be monitored 24/7 when at work (web cameras in offices, and police head-cams, available for anyone to login to and view) - all data from meetings & investigations to be available in the most convenient formats to view, process, search and archive.
If people need or want more information on something they can vote to start an enquiry into something or commission a scientific paper regarding the subject (budgets for these topics could also be voted on).
There would have to be news areas of the site to keep people informed as to what’s coming up for voting and when.
The roll of people in gov. would be to present the options e.g. summing up of costs, implications and options for each vote topic.
1 person 1 vote (per topic).
I accept there will be initial spam voting, but expect it to be swamped out by real votes very early on.
Yes it would still be possible to “buy” peoples votes - but at lest they make the money and not the politician!
Internet must be provided by the state free - no one can be excluded whatever the reason.
