I don't like Domain.com.
I had an account there for registration and DNS and I had the actual hosting elsewhere. Their DNS system was pretty limited as you couldn't use zone files but at the time I wasn't doing anything complex so it was good enough.
Their webinterface for managing the site changed just about every year and gradually became more and more loaded with scripts to "enhance functionality". The interface also had a large focus on users that did their hosting at domain.com, and if you didn't you would get a lot of suggestions and offers for upgrading your account.
In one of the yearly bills they actually tried to charge me for a "unix account" which had hosting and cost two or three times as much as I had been paying up until then. I went through support and all seemed fine for one or maybe two years.
Now, they send emails every year stating that you need to renew your domain if you're not on automatic renewal. I was on automatic renewal, but I would still log in every year to see if everything was fine. One year though it seemed like I couldn't remember my password, so after two more warning emails I went through the password recovery option only to be denied with a message saying the account was not recognised.
Domain.com's support system is nice because you need an account to use it. If you don't have an account they seem to recommend live chat. Live chat wasn't working. I got an email one or two days later basically stating that I had been trying to use their chat system while it had crashed. That at least gave me a support email address for help.
Support told me that my account did not exist. It did have records of my transactions, but for example the billing ID and such were all unknown. My account just didn't exist.
I had to send copies of legal documents for them to confirm my identity, yet still they couldn't reinstate my account. They could transfer the domains to an account of my choosing though! Except you couldn't make an account without purchasing anything.
I no longer wanted to be a customer there, so I lost my domains. Just my personal experience. I found it a negative experience and because of that I would discourage others from dealing with that company.
