In time for the end of the next revolution, we need somthing new to put in place, somthing at least half ready to do its job. For if we just follow history we will end up again with rulers of one type or another.
We have had many systems of control and order, each “progression” becoming larger and more complex. We have had many systems of voting and power division.
Until recently there was no realistic way for “the people” to control or dictate the workings of government, only to vote for someone else to control and govern. This is ultimately not allowing “the people” to have a near proportional say in the workings of humanity. We just have a 2 way switch between parties that ultimately are engaged in keeping the interests of PRIVATE businesses and wealth above that of a truly equal and just society. This seems to hold true in many shapes and guises the world over, all be it with variations on voting and ruling systems, but ultimately there is deliberate distancing of the people, for the benefit of the few.
So come the revolution, as we clean the blood off the walls… What then? -

I found a box of optical disks from 2009 and before. They reminded me of all the things I used to install on my WinXP box, and the stuff I downloaded and consumed with them (animu, music, etc). I wanted to get rid of all of these disks, but a parent said "hey why not give that to me, and I'll give it back sometime". Although it was exciting to sweep through all this old stuff, I still have the feeling that it would have been better to forget about it.
I have a similar feeling towards everything these days. I got rid of many acquaintances because simply remembering them while they are no longer useful for any purpose/activity was annoying. I want to be on a technological bleeding edge, and not care about old standards, backward compatibility and other burdens. I'd like to have a moderate music collection, few books and few movies bundled in one big package that I keep, and the rest of the media I consume would come and go, just like people in real life. I often feel a need to archive certain things, and make apocalypse-proof, anti-piracy-proof, complete backups. I sometimes even make notes to remind myself of the context of something. Keeping myself in an old context so I can still like the things I'm guarding is rather tiring, but if I stop, I will not see the reason why I guard them so persistently, and I'll just get rid of them.
This tendency has made me dislike much of literature and music that hold references to the present, memes, politics, concrete things. On the other hand, it helps me appreciate older/archaic things; also more abstract stuff, be it arts or philosophy. I'm uncomfortable around the sciences however, for most people that have to do anything with them can get rather dogmatic. -

Right now, I just started a "head book" or so I like to call it. I have a lot of trouble remembering good advice, or why I choose to change something about myself (external appearance, habits, my internal talk about myself or what I think people think of me, quotes to repeat myself such as "always faithful", etc) or my life (why I wake up early, why I'm going to college).
I'm also reading psychology books such as: Invitation to Psychology by Carole Wade and Carrol Tavris, and Communication in our Lives by Julia T. Wood. If you want something to read in your spare time, I recommend the latter as it deals with communicating with others. Very insightful.
I'm 21. There's a lot that I'd like to improve about myself, like how quiet and unconfident I sound through my speech and my diction, my passivity, my temperament, and my physical being (skin tone, muscle, etc). I also hear that your diet (like caffeine and refined sugar) can really affect your mood and how you think.

it must be crazy for animals that live in the city to see stampedes of cars going at 6-9am and 3-6pm.
i'm pretty sure they recognize the patterns but to not know its purpose must be frustrating as all hell.
this popped into my head as i was driving into the city for work and was seeing one of the few areas that still had a ton of greenery being demolished for new business plazas.
imagine how many animals must have been trapped in there surrounded on all sides by highways full of speeding cars.
this same city houses one of the biggest refinery complexes in the world as well. I remember living near the area as a kid, although now i've moved farther out, but reading about the side effects these places have on you is mind boggling scary.
people who have kids born without ears or massive defects, cancer rates through the roof as well. it wasn't until recently i put two and two together and realized why we have one of the biggest cancer centers in the world.
the normalacy of it all. i guess compared to yesteryear this is regulated paradise but imagine how much damage i'm exposing myself just being in the area(i'm currently parked in the college parking lot in between bouts of snoozing and internet).
you really don't need to look hard to realize the dangers yet people, such as myself, tend to forget all this stuff in the backdrop of out daily lives. sometimes I wonder if this is where i'll die one day. whether it be of old age, early cancer, a victim/perpetrator of road raqe or some other toxin of the city.
if i really get down to it, i don't really know much more than those animals. where we are going or why we continue. i mean, hunger is a hellavu reminder but it's like that motif of the blind man forever walking and powering the gear to move some unknown machine.
i know i'm rambling, but it's not like there's anything better to say. -

I don't know how many Americans here have seen the "Real Cost of Tobacco" ads they keep playing on some networks, but one thing bothers me about some of them. I'm not talking about the ones that more directly address the health risks. I'm talking about the other ones that are all "Big tobacco be like..."
If people are buying tobacco still, they're buying it because they like it and either ignore the risks willingly or accept them. But some of these ads really emphasize the fact "HEY, THEY'RE MAKING MONEY!" But if people want to give up their money to smoke tobacco and each tobacco product has that surgeon general's warnings and all these ads about the health risks of tobacco warn people and yet they still want to smoke, the fault is strictly the consumers', isn't it? Why should the tobacco company be vilified just for meeting the consumer's own demands and getting compensation for it? People might say "they're making money off a product that kills people," but, again, their customers aren't being forced to buy it, especially when tobacco companies don't even run television ads anymore. -

Get your passport, have citations cleared, and dnebts paid off so that if push comes to shove you can have a shot at leaving without someone looking for you. Make sure your ID's etc are within date and never close to expiration.
If it's possible/necessary get a gun license/conceal carry even if you never plan on using it.

Acquire a skill like welding, electronics, first aid, something that can be useful IRL and that you can spend time learning but otherwise wouldn't normally.
This obviously excludes soykaf like anime, japanese, pretty much any language learning, pottery(although not really) etc. I'm on the fence about something like programming though.
Stuff like knowing about guns and basic car mechanics is a given though. That you should definitely know how to do.

This involves having some spare cash(I say about $1000 or whatever is a decent chunk of change that you normally wouldn't carry on your person), a bit of silver(not gold though too expensive), and at least 1 gun. If you can afford/access it that is.
Specifically for guns look for what’s common in your country in terms of caliber and weapons types and go with that, nothing exotic. for example i'm in the US so anything that shoots 9mm is perfect and for rifles the ar-15 is ubiquitous.
Don't go crazy with the guaze, radios, flares etc. btw. I think things that serve 1 or 2 very well defiined purposes works best.
This should take care about the general stuff although I'm sure there are tons of small details I have not covered. Specifically what to do in terms of technical knowledge. I know we have pdf's and ebooks but physical books would be much better. -

the only thing I haven't done is the report that goes along with it, and they guy doing that has given my no detail about his progress on it other than "fine".

We currently use HLS for our streaming protocol. Which while there are HTML5 web players that support HLS they are a bitch to work with, and you would need to enable javascript for it to work. Even still comes down to each individual's browser settings (no seriously, this is a major problem). Fear not though you can manually connect to the stream with any of your favorite media players that supports RTMP (rtmp://laintv.com/live/stream).

Don't know, just general thread related to feelings of isolation? Was thinking of a place to talk about this and I figured a lot of people here might share the sentiments.
I don't necessarily mean you have no friends or never get outside or whatever, although that too. But maybe among these friends you feel they don't really care about you or vice versa? Can't relate with them? Hell paintings, literature, media dealing with isolation even.
A lot of people act like i'm stupid, and actually get angry with me for asking questions. Yet they still seem to enjoy talking to me. Advice on this sort of thing is so fuarrrked up too. People will tell you that you are the one causing these feelings in other people and need to make changes in yourself, others will say don't blame yourself and that they are trying to bring you down because they see you as competition. I guess the only real thing to do is stop paying attention to it. -

For example, in "The Walking Dead," they call zombies "walkers," "geeks," "roamers," "biters," "rotters," and any other stupid name they can come up with to avoid the "Z" word. And in "28 Days Later," they call them "infected." And in the video game "The Last of Us," they call them "runners," "stalkers," "clickers," and "bloaters." Just call them zombies, you assholes. I'm not sure if this is an appropriate post for /r/, but this is the only community I can reach out to in any meaningful way and I need to talk about this.
I'm in a situation where I am hyperaware of the absolute meaninglessness of everything. The principles on which society is built, and on which our morality is founded. The expectations people have of one another. All of it is fake, shallow, bull soykaf . I mean, I know this is a relatively common experience, but I have been experiencing a lot of negative stuff alongside it.
I guess the most concerning thing I've been experiencing is an extreme detachment and alienation from both myself and the world around me, as though I am an empty being observing a hallucination of reality. I float through life without having much in the way of life experiences. hardly remembering what I do from day to day because it's like I'm in a dream. In the past, I'd withdraw into myself when exposed to the problems of the world and of the human condition, but I've found that I am increasingly empty in the roots of my being.
I also experience this alienation when I observe the behavior of other people. It's as though they're completely ignorant of all of the things I am experiencing, because if they had experienced them they would be more like me. I suppose I don't want to accept the alternative because it means that the differences between me and other people is that I lack the ability to cope with these negative experiences. I don't want to think that I am broken, and instead project this brokenness onto the fabric of reality, clinging to certain strains of social and individualist anarchist thought, existentialism, and Gnosticism. I know that probably sounds edgy, but that isn't my intent. Frankly I'm not sure if I am legitimately interested in any of those things or if I'm just desperate for some sense of security and hope.
Because of my social isolation and intense feelings of alienation, I've continued to withdraw from anything I see as threatening, and the extent to which I isolate myself warps my perspective of what constitutes a threat. I try to avoid anything that could shatter whatever is left of my internal world.
Lains, I'm really hurting. I don't know how much longer I can do this. I don't think I was meant to exist.
I'm sorry for the blog post. I normally wouldn't post something like this. I just need someone to hear this. -

How do I get myself to stop wasting so much time?
Everyday I waste so much time refreshing forums and stuff. Lainchan isn't so bad since it's slower, but it happens with Hacker News and sometimes 4chan. I don't even enjoy the content in those sites, but it's an impulse to go to them.
How can I develop the self-discipline to not do this? It makes me feel terrible when it's been say, five hours and I haven't done what I needed to do. I don't even care that much about not doing schoolwork/studying, but I feel like I am wasting time I could be using in learning interesting stuff by myself.

Can lainchan recommend me a distro?
I tried all the buntu flavors and they just run slow on my X200s, or just slower than I'd hope.
I tried Arch with XFCE, everything was fine except for WiFi which refused to connect to open networks and sometimes to pass networks (dhcpcd didn't work well I think) and also USBs wouldn't mount for soykaf .
I want a distro that is light on the resources (DE would be either XFCE or openbox maybe?) and that would offer pretty minimal maintenance.
I want it to boot and just be ready to write code and then compile using gcc. -

First let me say to those who have been waiting for the Hackers stream: Sorry. I promise I will do it soon, but at the moment I don't want to give an exact date. As for those who didn't know Lainchan has a live stream: It does, but it has mainly just been me doing them. Even then only few and far between, however I hope to fix that with this thread.
As of today I am looking for anyone who would be willing to do streams with me. At the moment I am only looking for 3-5 people with the possibility of adding more over time. The only real requirement is having a suitable upload speed, but this depends on what you are streaming and is on a case by case basis. Once I get enough people we will work out time slots, and hopefully solve the problem of euros not being able to watch due to time zones.
If you are interested, or want to know more information please either PM me in IRC (user name: IcanFLY) or email me (Check the email field). PMing me will probably be the fastest, but I will make efforts to check my emails.

I feel nothing but loathing for two of my best friends from years ago.
they are repeating the same mistake, again, they are splintering a community I call home, again. Not from selfishness or malice, simply because they are lonely i guess. But im still mad, these are people I can't fight with because we could pretty easily wreck eachothers lives and theyre kindof brash. Loose cannons so to speak. They are also getting one of my new best friends to join, theres nothing saying he wont like me or not hang out with me, but im in the perfect position to be put in the middle of drama between one group of people i care about, and another I care about, and both could fuarrrk me up a bit and drag me into a shitstorm.
Most of them know my posting style well enough I can't even go anon, curse fuarrrking avatarfagging, there are even /b/ boards I can't post on because they would be able to figure it out from context.
A small part of me is tempted to hurt these old friends, a lot, which scares me the most, so I just want to disappear so I don't do anything dumb or hurt anyone.
Sorry for the rant, I hope its not unallowed but I don't know anywhere else I can vent this, and I have a ton of friends who are all close and willing to help me out, but I know I can't vent to a single one of them because this could make its way to the old friends ears. And who knows what things those old friends are whispering into the ears of my new friends, they helped me a lot long ago, but they also have an incredibly negative opinion of me, and like to make up soykaf .
