I think it would be really cool to meet people from this community, so I made a lainchan zeemap. Here's the link: https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1432746

There's no need to register in order to add your marker, but you have to save the URL it gives you to be able to edit it later. I'm also making a rule that you have to include a way to contact you. Unreachable Lainons will have their markers removed.

Lainchan. If you could be given any existing job, or any job that has a high probability of existing in the next two years, what would it be?

Keep in mind you won't be given any skillsets other than those you currently have and let's say 3 months of training.

Me personally, I'd choose mathematics or electronics researcher. Honestly research will always be a profession as long as one group of people want to edge out another group and math just applies to everything. However I'm cheating because I'm about to get my degree in EE. So, I'd be qualified for those jobs in three months anyway.

Now a job with only 3 months of training, I'd say electrician. Honestly there is always going to need to be someone that wires up building and maintains the electric grid.

At least until free energy is invented.

Accounting, my current profession. It's been about as automated as is possible for any job. Until hard AI exists that runs on cheap hardware, every business is still going to need a bookkeeper.

>m8, anarcho-capitalism is just an edge-master synonym for Laissez-faire capitalism
A tent of which is, according to Wikipedia:
>Corporations are creatures of the State and therefore must be watched closely by the citizenry due to their propensity to disrupt the Smithian spontaneous order
Letting corporations walk over everything isn't exactly watching over them closely to pevent disruption of the Smithian spontaneous order.
If "watched closely" can be interpreted as meaning "prevented from giving their owners disproportionate influence", an argument can be made that mutualism can fit the encyclopediac definition of Laissez-faire capitalism. This allows for mutualist ideas to be spread under the pretense of working within capitalism.

Is there no Halloween thread on /r/ right now? I guess everyone is too busy dressing up as Deckard and Case?
How many Lains did you see on the streets? Any Molly Millions?

I myself just witnessed a few fights, some curbstomping and forty minutes of my friend punching the wall

How do you dress as Case?
Seriously, I don't remember any very precise description of his appearance. The only one I remember was that he doesn't look like any individual.
I would go for some old jeans and a sweatshirt or some black leather (which quite contrasts compared to my usual style, so kind of a costume), but that's all I kind of now.
If I had some time, I would probably try to do something that looks like a deck (a keyboard in a more refined metal casing) and do something that looks like trodes or those GitS DNI plugs.

And no Lains seen, probably because nobody wanted to freeze to death here.

crossdressed with a bunch of activists. got a little drunk and then went to the rocky horror picture show
crossdressed again with a bunch of nerds and got really wasted. had a long conversation about psychology and technology and stuff
then I went to a pagan celebration and had little too much to drink. we played retro videogames, watched old witch movies and honored our dead ancestors

Can lainchan recommend me a distro?
I tried all the buntu flavors and they just run slow on my X200s, or just slower than I'd hope.
I tried Arch with XFCE, everything was fine except for WiFi which refused to connect to open networks and sometimes to pass networks (dhcpcd didn't work well I think) and also USBs wouldn't mount for soykaf .
I want a distro that is light on the resources (DE would be either XFCE or openbox maybe?) and that would offer pretty minimal maintenance.
I want it to boot and just be ready to write code and then compile using gcc.

How do I configure partitions if i have hdd and ssd?

Manjaro, based on Arch. Easy to use like Ubuntu, but you have more control. Also on my machines, it has been way faster than ubuntu or linux mint (both debian based).

>>17552

You don't need to partition anything if you have two hard drives and want to keep your OS data on one and files on the other.

The only partitioning you really need to do is on the OS drive. You should have a partition for each mount point of the OS that you want to separate. i.e.

sda1 = /boot
sda2 = / (root)
sda3 = swap
sda4 = home

previous comment sums it up but if you want games on your HDD you will either have to manually install to paths on that disk or modify whatever install script your package manager is working with on a per package basis. since any dependencies will still be living on your SSD I wouldn't bother personally.

Everyone's found something cool on the interwebs only to forget what it's called or how to find it again. So in this thread you describe whatever it is you're looking for, and maybe a lainon will link it. The 'it' can be anything; a website, song, video, picture, porno, pdf, vidya, quote, snippet of code, item on Amazon, torrent, whatever.

I'll start. I saw a webm of basically pic related. Someone took a terrorist propaganda video and dubbed it over with RMS' GNU/Linux interjection (or maybe just replaced the subtitles, I don't remember). In between the shots of the speaker there were executions, rocket launches, IED explosions, that kind of thing. If I remember correctly I saw it on 8ch /tech/.
