Is anyone else here not tech inclined? I've messed around with linux and can fix basic issues on a computer(replace parts/reinstall os) but I feel so out of place.

plz gibs reassurance ;_;

feeling that right now. so much I want to learn; electrical engineering, using linux efficiently, programming. so little time.

trying to get tor installed on arch right now, i2p was a breeze but this is proving to be a pain in the ass.

It's always been the opposite for me. Tor is easy, but i2p is a pain in the ass.

Honestly... based on most of the stuff people post here, you're probably in good company. I think a some of the users sound savvy, but probably aren't as adept as they seem. There's plenty of noobs here (me included)

Plus, if you've messed with Linux and know how to replace your computer parts, I'd say you're already fairly tech inclined. You're already ahead of the average Joe.

I don't like Domain.com.

I had an account there for registration and DNS and I had the actual hosting elsewhere. Their DNS system was pretty limited as you couldn't use zone files but at the time I wasn't doing anything complex so it was good enough.

Their webinterface for managing the site changed just about every year and gradually became more and more loaded with scripts to "enhance functionality". The interface also had a large focus on users that did their hosting at domain.com, and if you didn't you would get a lot of suggestions and offers for upgrading your account.

In one of the yearly bills they actually tried to charge me for a "unix account" which had hosting and cost two or three times as much as I had been paying up until then. I went through support and all seemed fine for one or maybe two years.

Now, they send emails every year stating that you need to renew your domain if you're not on automatic renewal. I was on automatic renewal, but I would still log in every year to see if everything was fine. One year though it seemed like I couldn't remember my password, so after two more warning emails I went through the password recovery option only to be denied with a message saying the account was not recognised.

Domain.com's support system is nice because you need an account to use it. If you don't have an account they seem to recommend live chat. Live chat wasn't working. I got an email one or two days later basically stating that I had been trying to use their chat system while it had crashed. That at least gave me a support email address for help.

Support told me that my account did not exist. It did have records of my transactions, but for example the billing ID and such were all unknown. My account just didn't exist.

I had to send copies of legal documents for them to confirm my identity, yet still they couldn't reinstate my account. They could transfer the domains to an account of my choosing though! Except you couldn't make an account without purchasing anything.

Hey Lains,
With Halloween right around the corner, what sp00ky scary media are you planning on indulging in?

Pic related, one of the scariest book series I've ever read.

Is anyone interested in renting out a very cheap warehouse in kansas city with me? The city is exploding with tech-related stuff/jobs. We would have the fastest fiber internet ever.

Just talked with the guy; says he can get fiber installed within 3-9 months. I'll probably badger him about it. We could make a deposit and hold it until Dec 1 and sort things out on our end; I just don't want to waste all yalls money.

Would anybody still be interested?

Ok so. I am a chan user and one who became a weeb a fair amount of time ago and really got into anime. SEL has stuck out to me and is by far my favorite anime. While searching custom website themes amoung other things i came across "lainchan.org" multiple times. i was not aware that such a place existed. what is this place?

He didn't really do much cyberpunk or sci-fi (aside from maybe Paprika, sort of), but anything by Satoshi Kon is worth your while. Try Perfect Blue if you're looking for something psychological, or Paranoia Agent if you're looking more something more philosophical. Both are creepy as hell.

If you're looking for hardcore based-on-real-science sci-fi, Planetes is god-tier. It's absolutely nothing like Lain in tone, though. Garbage collectors in space, with actual realistic orbital mechanics. It's like "Kerbal Space Program the TV Show".

There's surprisingly little good cyberpunk anime out there. Most of it is actually "generic action show with some unrealistic Hollywood-esque hacking scenes". Ghost in the Shell SAC, on a good day, is probably as close as you'll come to classic "high-tech low-life" cyberpunk. (On a bad day it's incomprehensible political drama and/or CSI Neo-Tokyo, but the good outweighs the bad.)
