Should probably switch carriers, 45 USD is a bit much if he just needs the number for 2FA.

A phone is not needed for two factor in any case.

kalyx is a schway person who must buy high tech from ebay, but otherwise lives a low life which sometimes comes with homelessness and no foods.

He hasn't shipped it because he's about to be homeless again; iirc he just got a job so he might be able to ship it before the year ends.

He disappeared from IRC because people started posting logs on 8ch in an effort to stir soykaf for the sake of it.

But yeah, he really is that poor; nothing wrong with being transparent tho.

That doesn't explain the emails he hasn't responded to

I know he's in a tough spot but he managed to tack on another $15 to my payment for shipping costs, that should have avoided shipping difficulties

I can wait, I just want to know if I'm not being robbed

he never respond to email he apparently gets a lot. Although he says he reads it, and I wouldn't worry about being robbed, kalyx is in a fuarrrked up situation irl.

think about it though, buy some new device, or use one of the many 2FA apps available?

was gonna buy a yubikey too, but i'm ok using my phone for now. also, most services require a phone number before even setting up 2FA anyway.

The point is that he is using the excuse of needing 2FA to paying for his personal phone bill.

This is clearly an abuse of the donation money when he could just purchase an $18 yubikey instead of an $45 monthly phone bill.

Also, you do not need phone service to use 2FA applications, only Wi-Fi access.
So he is clear just using donation money for solely personal, non site related, purposes.

i have the same domain registrar going by the SSL cert (Gandi) and they require a SMS capable phone number to even setup the 2FA. And that is essential to keep turned on considering the type of site this is.

And that might be enough to justify using some of the donation money, but still there are some cost cutting measures he can take to lower the 45 USD monthly bill.

Soon he will be able to be able to replace Gandi with Let's Encrypt.
Maybe he should consider switching domain registrars as well.

It's a great domain registrar, not sure why he should consider that.

Then also think about who is hosting the site, the email provider, etc.

They require an SMS capable phone number to set up 2FA.

Check the sites registered by them, off the top of my head they include the EFF and Debian.

Most services would require a phone nonetheless, so unless you've got a specific service in mind that doesn't, I'm done replying.

Some carriers offer free sms if that's all you need. I've been using Scratch Wireless for a while and they've been great.

That is so bad dude, I was going to buy the backpack but I ended up scoring another one cheaper.
I hope you get your stuff.
