It was from some 8ch thread that had lain as the image and it was advertising lainchan. i think it was made by kalyx and the thread had a lot of angry anons talking soykaf but i followed the link and I remember reading "we might help you fix your navi if you ask nicely" on /tech/ and I was fuarrrking shocked. coming from 8ch /tech/ and 4/g/ where everyone attacks you for the smallest thing I was suprised to see that and decided I'd give it a shot.

Then I fell in love with the cyberpunk CSS and the politeness, quality post, and interests of most lainons.

I honestly don't remember. It was probably through /g/.
I've been around for around five or six months.
A post every two days is pretty standard.
>>4682
I can definitely empathize with that. Before Lainchan, I mainly frequented #/g/punk and scavenged around 4chan trying to find like-minded posters. Something about the atmosphere of this site calms people down.
Love you, Lains.

Lainchan's a friendly place, for which I'm very thankful :)

So I watched Lain for the first time around…May last year. Found out about mebious.co.uk and .mobi from sheer curiosity surrounding the famous coolant pipe, and then…Was it reddit? Was it mobi? Not sure. But I found this place.

Been here for a year (on/off) and I post maybe once a week.

Peace

I started watching Lain about ~2 months ago, and I remembered hotwheels tweeting about streaming with the lainchan admins. I searched for you on ED to read up on the site, but finding no article, I decided to just try to lurk, and soak in the atmosphere. It's bretty nice here.

I rarely post, as I still don't quite have the hang of being polite, and friendly on image boards.

I never did finish Lain. Pls no ban.

I was on 4ch since REDACTED and really just couldn't deal with the user base anymore. As I wandered the vast and mostly dead space in the ruins of allchan I found this site and just stored it in the back of my brain.
Then tumblr finally killed /g/ (among other things) and I had to find a new home. The hatred and trolling of REDACTED finally spilled out to the entire site and I couldn't even find that needle in the haystack anymore so I came here again and started reading through the threads and fell in love with the passion and sensible humor of the users.
I was a heavy poster on /g/ and was on it for many hours a day, as I work in IT so I have lots of time to browse but have only recently dedicated myself to lain and have slowed down a lot in content as I acclimate myself to the boards. I have been posting on /c/ and /w/ mostly as a have a lot of content that people are looking for and hoping to draw a few more unknowing lainons who will not soykaf up the boards.
I also really enjoy the ability to share PDFs with the post and think its a awesome feature, as well as hope to conintue to teach myself λ and help out with the site itself soon.

I got to this place from tumblr sometime last year. First I migrated to thugboy.com but quickly realized that it was full of nonfat-soykaf drinkers and manchildren. At the time I only lurked here because I'm not comfortable posting somewhere until I'm familiar with its community. I wanted an imageboard more in line with my interests specifically and with a higher post quality. I started posting infrequently earlier this year and I've begun being a bit more active recently. Initially discovered it after watching serial experiments maybe a year or two ago. I picked it up since I was told it was a sufficiently thought-provoking seinen, and one of the best out there to begin with. I have no interest in the slice-of-life chibi cutesy moe soykaf so obviously it didn't disappoint.

I didn't give lainchan much thought because to me it seemed like a ded bored, perhaps gone the way of 7chan, as I was accustomed to the lighting posting speed of 4chan. Since that soykafhole had lost my interest long ago I hadn't been frequenting any chans much until after migrating to 8ch in September. Word of lainchan came about there once again, and I've been here ever since.

I've come to appreciate slower boards now and by extension slower chans. They are far less heavy ice and actually give you the chance to have real conversations. I pop in here on occasion.

Listen man I'll be completely honest with you. Most bans for things other than ovbiois spam and inappropriate pictures of children are discussed in the mod irc channel before they're ever enacted. We're not trying to be tyrants, and really want what is best for this website. If you have a problem, feel free to drop into #lainchan on freenode and talk to us about it. Most of us are completely reasonable people most of the time just like anyone else, and we check one another if we're ever off base.

There are good people here with legitimate concerns about heavy handed moderation who are reasonable, polite people who use the proper channels to check us. I'm very glad these people exist, because they're just another way to keep us on track.

There are also those who try to sow discontent. They come from another imageboard, soykafpost, and then get really pisses off when then are warned by the moderators (derezzed for zero seconds so a message appears before they can post again). They then proceed to spam the site about how "the mods are fag ten year olds on powers trips" and this creates a vicious circle.

Don't be a whiney baby. Be a useful member of the board that checks us through appropriate channels when they need to. We're very open to constrictive criticism.

Regarding the deleted boards, we did hold a vote before removing any of the boards on the board list. This isn't 8chan, we don't hgave a million boards. Gotta slim to survive, baby.

 No.5928

I'm kind of surprised to see this many people who are also refugees from 8chan. Count me among them.

I still have hopes for 8chan to at least be able to continue without straight-up dying due to lack of usership and rising server costs, but goddamn that site is turning to soykaf at an alarming rate. It's really sad when comparing it to the first few months, when it felt a bit like old 4chan again, for a brief and beautiful moment. But now, the whole website is becoming increasingly dominated with 4chan-tier soykaf drinking, board drama, website drama (muh SJW boogeyman! muh reddit boogeyman!), and, perhaps worst of all, the inane stormbabby /d/iaperyps militantly soykaf drinking on every board their greasy hands can find in the board list. Even 8/cyber/ hasn't been spared of this, among the many other problems that board has.

I'm not saying of course that stormbabbies aren't allowed to exist on a *chan and should be excluded if they're being reasonable and contributing decent content, but they can literally only communicate in memes and seem to be hellbent on turning all of 8chan into their right wing extremist hugbox. And they're winning.

Even on /leftypol/, people seem to not understand the concept of saging and ignoring nonfat-soykaf drinkers. And because 8chan has their whole MUH RADICAL LIBERTARIAN FREEDOM thing going on, the amount of moderation on the site as a whole is sorely lacking. Again, not that I support fascist mods banning everyone in sight for violating one of hundreds of rules (or just posting things in disagreement with the mods' personal beliefs, in the case of 4chan by now), but the users can only do so much to combat nonfat-soykaf drinkers and raids.

/rant. I like it here.

I heard through the digital grapevine that Kalyx was trying to quit watching porn so he purged /l/ and /cl/. The dangers of porn addiction are nothing to scoff at but I still think it was a weak move on his part.

That's the running theory anyways. I don't think the official announcement a few months back gave any reason other than "we're not a porn site and we're not trying to become one".

Believe it or not, the "wwe white trash" on /wooo/ are in fact mostly liberal arts college students as well.

The old stereotype of all wrestling fans being backward rednecks has always been off base, but especially now in the 21th Century when the biggest cities for wrestling in America are New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago, none of which are in the south.

Some drama I have already forgotten about was happening on 8chan and as usual people were talking about leaving. I wasn't considering leaving 8chan but I was curious about other chans. Checked a few suggestions out and they were soykaf then someone mentioned Lainchan. They described it as "comfy" so I checked out /tech/ and /cyb/ and quickly discover the "cyberpunk" theme which just makes the site look sexy as fuarrrk. I have been browsing /tech/ ever since and although it's slow it's a nice board and I have no complaints about it. I browse /tech/ every single day and love when there are new posts to read. Then yesterday or the day before (I haven't got a lot of sleep lately so I really don't know which) I saw a thread saying that /tech/ might close down and then later there was a thread by a moderator saying that /tech/ had sinned and needed to be more of a hugbox. So I came to this board to see what people were saying about it.
And that is my complete Lainchan history because I'm a filthy newfag.

I'd seen that there were a lot of Lain / wired themed sites, and thought it was unusual. I think I just searched "lainchan" for the hell of it, and sure enough... Serial Experiments Lain is one of my all time favorites, I thought there might be people who are easier to get along with if they shared this.

I rarely post. I like places with a smaller population, but the slower rate is a bit too slow. I can remember exactly what threads I plan to watch, but don't always actually do so.

I was sort of looking for new chans to post on, and I ended up here.

I really like this place. My main problem with places like Masterchan and 8chan is I feel as though they're trying to be the next 4chan, which is fine I guess, but Lainchan has it's own Identity that really makes it stand out from the crowd.

Whereas other chans take their content from one of the many era's of 4chan, Lainchan just does it's own thing. Which I can really respect.
