We have exploded with traffic recently. It's time to run piwik for a while to visualize whats actually going on. I'm setting it up now. I suppose i'll enable the js plugin too, and I'll have a link to a cookie that lets you opt out. We will be using a combination of nginx logging and js. If you are running NoJS(or any other paranoid thing of choice) please whitelist lainchan. pls. pretty please. Piwik is nothing like Google Analytics. We aren't selling anything, we just want to see whats going on. That being Me, darkengine, and a few other admins. Read up on it here before making any baseless assumptions. We will definitely be setting up some timed destruction of any logs. maybe like 6 months. The whole program runs on our servers only. Nothing goes outside of lainchan. All we know, or care about is what happens in here. We do some stuff like anonymize the last few bytes of the IP's and you can use the "do not track" thing in your web browser.

UPDATE- btw our traffic has been bumpin' long before whatever is happening on 4chan right now. Completely unrelated.

Recently, there has been a lot of controversy and confusion over the de-listing of /tech/. As one of the new /tech/ mods, I would like to make a statement and clear some of this up.

/tech/ was de-listed because of the general soykaf brewing, lack of intelligent conversation, and general glitterboyism.

Now that /tech/ is back on the header, we need to make some changes around here. All you have got to do is follow the rules. The ones that you need to take special care to are those that follow.

1. You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soy

2. Always argue in good faith and avoid using personal attacks.

3. Don't respond with aggression to perceived flames or trolls (or at all.)

Any posts that break these rules will be removed, and repeat offenders will be drezzed.

Yeah, just like that. You are lingering somewhere in bottom three levels without even trying to say something intelligent for once. It gets very tiring because all of you are permanently stuck on those bottom three layers.

Personally I am partial to base 36 as it also is a perfect square, in addition to being really fun in general.

I use it a lot for record keeping and such. Math is pretty fun to.

I was hunting for the serial experiments chan a few weeks ago which I thought was on serialexperiments.org or something and this place was a top search result.

Anybody got a list of the hidden boards? Apart from /test/ I only managed to locate /ht/ and that board seems useless/dead

I was getting sick of 4chan, was long sick of people, and by extension was becoming sick of the internet in general. I'd seen that there were a lot of Lain / wired themed sites, and thought it was unusual. I think I just searched "lainchan" for the hell of it, and sure enough... Serial Experiments Lain is one of my all time favorites, I thought there might be people who are easier to get along with if they shared this.

I rarely post. I like places with a smaller population, but the slower rate is a bit too slow. I can remember exactly what threads I plan to watch, but don't always actually do so.

Mostly listen to the radio.

I was sort of looking for new chans to post on, and I ended up here.

I really like this place. My main problem with places like Masterchan and 8chan is I feel as though they're trying to be the next 4chan, which is fine I guess, but Lainchan has it's own Identity that really makes it stand out from the crowd.

Whereas other chans take their content from one of the many era's of 4chan, Lainchan just does it's own thing. Which I can really respect.

It's a great domain registrar, not sure why he should consider that.

Then also think about who is hosting the site, the email provider, etc.

Check the sites registered by them, off the top of my head they include the EFF and Debian.

Most services would require a phone nonetheless, so unless you've got a specific service in mind that doesn't, I'm done replying.

Can we please delete all politics threads in /cyb/. We have one thread about asylum seekers and another one about Anarcho Socialism, both of them are near the top in the index and both of them are cancerous. I think that unless it is an ideology which ties directly into cyberpunk itself it should be kept to /r/. Trans-humanism, Technocracy and Crypto-anarchism should be allowed because they facilitate conversation about cyberpunk. Just about everything else devolves into /pol/ style bickering where everyone is creating strawmen and getting upset.

I mean conversations tend to go like this.
>I am an Anarcho-socialist
>That means you want to take my rights away dosen't it.
>Hey but you want to take my rights away
>is not
>is too
>is not
>is too
Fucking cancer.
>>

 No.7851

Similar question. This is a cyberpunk themed board, therefore all posts in other categories are usually somewhat cyber related. We also have /r/ for misc. What exactly goes in cyber is beyond me b/c it seems like cyber would be for misc. As long as I've been here (about a year), cyb has been a containment board. Popular threads like "Is this cyb?" (If you aren't sure, do a search or read a book, don't ask), /pol/ and /leftypol/ garbage, and survivalism/conspiracy theory stuff ends up there. Technocracy/Crypto-anarchism or whatever flavor of politics you want to discuss almost always devolves into flaming. Politics, religion, and the like are hard enough to discuss civilly in real-life and the internet just exaggerates things even further. Transhumanism could easily fall under /r/ as well and you'd probably get more educated responses. I guess what I'm saying is cut your losses and try posting in /r/.

I think they should stay.

And this is coming from someone who is from /cyb/ but i never post in the political threads.

However, politics are cyb, no really they play a huge part into Cyberpunk.

I'd completely understand removing political related posts if they were coming up a lot in a place such as /tech/ because politics are rarely related to it. However i would object to removing political related posts from /drg/ for quite obvious reasons. Politics are very related to cyb too.

To fair to you, i haven't been in those threads, so my analysis is flawed to a point, but removing things such as that, imho is not the best idea. Just my 2 cents.

>>

 No.7859

my 2 cents: politics are basically inescapable, if we removed blatant politics there'd still be discrete politics.

as a user, I'm going to be skimming these threads more often and reporting posts that violate the rules. I'm tired of the mindset that if something is political it gets a free pass on quality beccause of free speech or whatever

I'm also fuarrrking exhausted with this bystander mentality about reporting posts. I don't want to be the only person doing it, and I feel like as long as these complaints are real nobody is trying real hard to report shitposts in /cyb/ politics threads.

They are not, cyberpunk is a sub genre of sci-fi

In some cases they are, but flat out making a political thread is only making it worse, people brew soykaf and is only going to spread to the rest of lainchan. that being said i don't want full no political talk, but making generals only brews soykaf.

 No.7829[Reply]

I know this might sound like trolling, but I'm pointing this out because I generally feel this is one of the better chans. The problem is that sometimes the personalities on this site cause some of the headache, for example: HUGE MUMBLE PARTY TONIGHT in burning red text ad nauseum, obnoxious music videos, etc. Having banners displaying IRC rants about how horrible the site or Kalyx is to be *ironic*. Doing things like this is just going to make jinteki and 8chan find more reasons to hate on this site and confirm that the admins are attention whores. Please try to add a bit more subtlety.

Not supporting what the admins are doing but why should I care if whoever you pointed out, jinteki and 8ch, hate us?

>>

 No.7834

I don't think anyone outside IRC cares about jinteki/8chan hating, but Kalyx makes it sound like the apocalypse is nigh over every little insult they throw at us. Essentially, by making such a big deal out of it instead of just ignoring them and saying "Oh no! They keep saying mean things about lainchan this is the end," just fuels the fire and makes us look like bigger idiots (not that it matters if we look like idiots, just that them the admins get all emo and take it out on the IRC and the boards). This is a good chan, too bad the emotional insecurity of some of the people running it have to make things a little more painful than it should be. Hopefully, they will get over it and things will return to normal.
