Read this a few years ago while I was researching how to live as cheaply as possible. Found you could skip that and just live for free. I seldom read books more than once, but I've read this a couple of times since as well. It's a collection of stories this 90's punk kid wrote while bumming around America. Going to read it again. Always puts me in mind to go out and adventure some more.

Any lainons have some more punk lit?

Time for a little collaborative fiction. Here's how this works:

We're telling a story about an anon jacking in to cyberspace and masquerading as various personae. The story is told in the first person, past tense, and every entry begins with 'Today I was', followed by whatever persona anon assumes today. Tell a little story about an anon's adventures in cyberspace.

Because AIs are usually patched together from different software packages to fit a specific purpose, data images of AIs tend to be different from each other, too. Which was really soykafty when you only had an incomplete one and were trying to find out what some almost entirely missing parts were supposed to be and how you could get reader programs to just ignore them or something instead of exclaiming "hurr durr this image is corrupted" and terminating without further ado.
Right now, it gave no sign that it was still working as intended. I went to the kitchen, poured myself a noffee (not-exactly-coffee but not soykaf either) and hungrily ate some cookies.

Earth Boy & Space Girl
----------------------

Are we in a simulation, an alternate dimension, a dream? Doesn’t matter. We’re here, now.

Galaxies swirl around us as we move through space at an impossible speed.

Earth Boy runs on a bridge of light, intelligent particle-waves assembling before him, bearing his weight and scattering into the vacuum as he passes. He breathes in, out. His heart beats out the chaotic time of his existence in his ape chest.

Space Girl flies, swoops through the void like a dolphin or a barn swallow. Her body changes color at a whim: now fuchsia, now chartreuse, now infrared. She dips her hand into a nebula, generating vortices of dust and plasma.

The two of us move together, away from nothing and towards everything, confident that we will find our destination along the way.

We leave no trace of where we’ve been.

We’re here, now. Then we’re gone.

Hello, head.
Is it that time again?
The to time to lay down and count my sins?

I wish to be better.
My shoulders light as feathers.
Instead, inside I feel the stormy weather.

The wind it blows.
It howls and it groans.
I'm drowning in rain, strapped to a stone.

Good night head.
I'm starting to bend.
This life is hard without a true friend.

What is your ideal hacker fiction lainons? If you had complete control, how would you tackle a piece of media about hacking (cracking if you want to be a stickler) and/or focusing on a hacker.

Personally I'd focus it more on the individual rather than trying to portray the hacking as more glamorous then it really is -- I'm looking at you hackers.

interesting question
>Personally I'd focus it more on the individual rather than trying to portray the hacking as more glamorous then it really is -- I'm looking at you hackers.
yes, a more realistic portray would be cool. I'd love a thriller story about a guy or a group who are good hackers but also do social engineering and intrusions in person
sort of like the good old spy stories but with modern tech and realistic hacking that makes sense and that you can follow

for example the Stieg Larsson trilogy was pretty bad in that respect

Greetings Lainons,

There are many books the great Lain wishes could be in our digital
libraries, and a near equal number of projects [0] aiming to bring
them so. None are directly organized for the benefit of Lainchan,
however. Therefore, I offer a proposition for this fine board's
consideration: We crowd-source the funds for an automatic linear
bookscanner [1] [2], which I will build and operate, converting books
selected by the community into digital form. I also have some fun
ideas about how to distribute the physical books post-scan, as a kind
of Kickstarter-esque rewards system.

What say you folks? It's not quite a warehouse in Kasas City, but a
potentially mutually beneficial arrangement nonetheless. E-mail the
throwaway account provided to indicate your interest, or reply in this

You're sacrificing a single physical copy for potentially infinite digital ones. Damning the information held within the book to be forgotten just because you don't want to put a few bruises on your analogue edition is plain selfish.
You can always have it professionally rebound afterwards.

Why destroy the book, when you could just use pic related? Physical books are sacred, and we may have to rely on them when SHTF.

In addition, unless the book in question is in large circulation, you may preven someone else from creating an ebook of said book, that is superior to yours.

That, and it'd be nice to sell it for a good price once I'm done with it.

That being said, I do know that book stores strip paperbacks of their covers, and then throw them in the trash, as demanded by their publishers. Not sure if book is still together once it reaches the trash or not, but I believe that's an possibility worth exploring.

Sadly true but I don't think that was the intention.

There's a trend with current youth culture to idolise the wrong people.
Spider is not a good person, he just tries to show how bad the rest of the world is.
No one should try to be like Spider, especially not bloggers.
That level of tenacity is obnoxious if you're not in the upper tiers of journalism, and even there it won't gain you friends or respect.
He does it for himself and his obsession with the truth.

Of course, these are the same people who see Tyler Durden as a positive role model.
