How feasible it is? How much overall cost to do it?
The idea is something for emergency situation, using a shipping container and then do a anechoic chamber/faraday cage around it.
I'm highly sensitive to loud sounds, so I was thinking in diy this in the future.

soykaf, the "subject" is wrong: it's "Anechoic/Faraday shelter using a underground shipping container". Video related:

Anechoic would be the hard part, for the Faraday part all you would need to do is run some EM models and if you want to block out ALL EM, then there is a bit of money you need to put behind it in the form of shielding, but other than that I don't see why not.

In the army I had to work in that kind of envieroment. The cones cost about 200~500 €/m^2 so the largest shipping container would cost 140 000 euros to make. Also those cones eat so much space that you wouldn't have almost any space left in the container. Depending on what do you want to silence. There are different models for sound and some types of radiation like microwaves. So they are from 0,5 meters to 1,5 meters long or even longer than that, i dunno I just worked there.

I think the steel container will be a Faraday cage as stands... as for silence, first line the container with plaster board or similar, filling the cavity with insulation dence stuff like carpet off cuts will help kill sound. Then you need to line the walls... Once yrs ago I made a recording studio area from foam and egg boxes. Line walls with LOW density flat (as cheaper than sculpted) foam (approx 8cm thick), then get loads of egg boxes (24 trays are the best) and glue them onto the foam... if you can find a restaurant that uses alot of eggs you might get enough free!

Failing that you can get good sound deadening foam for way less than >>814
Just a few $$$ per square foot.

Nothing is truly perfect its just a matter of how quiet you want it - both these methods will give you much peace!

If it's underground, though, it shouldn't need as much shielding, right?

Well they tested some secret radio and radar equipment there that could send atleast 10 000 watts to air so I guess they just wanted to be sure.

Also the base was somewhere in eastern europe next to Russia so Russian spying was like everyday occurrance over there. There was not a day when some Russian/rented car was parked in some suspicious location with people buzzing around it.

fuarrrking ruskie's. They are the only reason we even have the army nowdays.

Sorry for not noticing your post. Those egg cones are somewhat good for sound but they don't really silence the radioactive spectrum of waves. If you have some devices that radiate on spectrum that can harm your cells you are building a huge microwave. This might seriously damage your testies and eyes if you have about 500 watt's of power in the device. Tough this guy propably won't have that much power in his hands if he doesn't break a microwave oven's door or something.

No eggs for şound but the steel shipping container is the Faraday cage, you won't be getting mobile reception in there... And will probably easy hold 1kw of emf.

hope you are aware that shipping containers will NOT hold up underground without some serious reinforcement. They are designed to be stacked, with all the weight going to the corners; not pressure from all sides that you'd get underground.

That can be fixed relatively easily with lengths of scrap steel and an oxy acetylene torch / MIG torch.

You could also reinforce it prior then fill the surrounding void in cement then remove the support.

Like they say, n log n ways to skin a cat.

always curious how people just know stuff like this, like I mean yeah sure you could figure it out I guess but you arent gonna see someone posting about a shipping crate underground and instantly go "oh yeah! that wont work".
