i set up my rpi with an Eyetoy as a security camera and mounted it over my door where people cant see it when they walk in. i don't actually have it plugged in ever its just something i did a while back but its set up to take pictures when it detects motion and save them on an SD card, and its also viewable live over the network. if i were to actually use it id set it up to push those images to my PC, and i tried to have it send me them via email once but i couldn't get that to work, but that would probably be the best though cause then id get a notification on my phone for it. i should probably get on that.
but yeah raspberry pi's are cool little things but they're basically toys, you can have fun getting them to preform small tasks but its like, lots of things that people do with them can be done better and easier with more available and more powerful hardware. if you can find something that would actually be useful to you, that you couldn't do as efficiently with other hardware you have, then do that with your pi, cause whatever that is will probably be the most satisfying project you could accomplish with one.
