Lets learn\practice Riceing DE's together.

I personally want to build a really lightweight DE that matches the cyberpunk CSS on here and have it on an sd card\USB converter so i can plug in to computers so i browse in a safe environment. Public\friends computers are filled with spyware.

Coincidentally, I've been trying to rice my laptop seriously for the first time these days.

I have Ubuntu with Openbox, tint2 as a side panel, conky as the thing in the top right, dmenu as an application launcher>>451
and urxvt as the terminal. I think it looks nice, at least nicer than it did a while ago.

The problems I have right now:
-I have two monitors, and I can't seem to make it so that when I open a new window in the second monitor it opens there.

-I can't seem to get the internet up and down thing to work, it just stays in zero.

-tint2 doesn't have volume control incorporated, so right now I can't change the volume easily

>>451
That's a nice idea, last night I tried to use someone else's windows 8 computer and it was really hard for me, having not touched a windows computer in a while.

itd be pretty /cyb/ to rice a Tails setup and only use that to get online.

>>

>>453
wouldn't that defeat the purpose of tails? You're trying to have a system without any fingerprints. By ricing a tails setup you're already making yourself identifiable out of all the other tails users.

I suppose you'd have to rice tails in such a way to only use alternative programs which can't be identified given that authorities have already discovered you were using tails. I don't know if this is possible, or to what extent.

Tell me, what have I to do in order to have hinted fonts?
fonts.conf work but not everywhere, I think.

This is the message from last night that I couldn't send:

Hey guys! It's really late and I should really go to bed but I can't because I'm excited and I need to tell you that I just made an accuweather script in python with feedparser which I'll use in conky.

It's this: https://www.refheap.com/97640

I hope you guys like it, it's my first time programming something useful!. To use it, you have to change the metric and locCode values. Metric is 0 for °F and 1 for °C, and locCode is your location code, which is actually really hard to find.

It should print out something like the weather part of pic related.

You can use it in conky with something like this:

${execpi 600 python ~/.weatherscript}

I'm so excited this is so great why didn't I do this before.

well i guess you made your pc into a piece of art? that's cool it is quite hypnotic!

bonus points for the guy who scans for open unauth VNC or whatever and displays a screenshot of his latest find plus how zmap or nmap or whatever is rushing through the ipv4's. even more bonus points for making a screengif when it currently displays the control panel of something impressive looking rather than a chinese ubuntu machine or something lame like that.

uhm ricing is the act of changing the colors and making custom menus and stuff i suppose?

picture related, it's what i made. form follows function, i'm only 25 and don't wear glasses but my eyesight has been better which is why i like a good contrast when i'm working.

lol make sure the script in your conky config for your "internet up and down thing" has the correct network interface listed that you are using. lots that you get online will have "eth0" set by default, if its a laptop your wifi card is probably "wlp9s0". use ifconfig or whatever ubuntu uses now to check. if it still dosent work you probably dont have something it needs installed, easiest thing would be find a different script for calculating network up/down. im not a conky wizard so id just look through some other conky configs online and swoop one that works on your system.

I was thinking of doing something like this too but I don't have much experience in linux, especially in ricing it. Where would I start if I wanted to make a lainchan approved, riced out, secure setup on an old dell laptop? What could I read or study? A few years ago I had a bit of experience from fuarrrking around with various linux distros and tinkering with minor under the hood soykaf, but I've forgotten most of it so assume I have to start from scratch.

I changed my screenfetch-dev file.
i can provide a downloadlink if you want.

By the way, I can create you your own screenfetch with your own image if you want. Just give me an image and name the linux distro you are using. (this might need a few days, depending if you want it colored or not)

I'm trying out Arch, the installation and setup went smoothly but I ran into an odd issue with yaourt.

yaourt -S screen-vs
curl error: Couldn't connect to server
[sudo] password for user:
error: target not found: screen-vs

I set it up using this guide.
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-yaourt-to-easily-download-arch-linux-community-packages
Found this workaround from a year ago but it doesn't work for me.
http://osquestions.com/unix-linux/109371/yaourt-curl-error-couldnt-connect-to-server
I can try a different AUR helper if anyone recommends one, I tried yaourt because I'd heard of it before.

By the way, has anyone tried to make a custom kb layout? I used to do that with xmodmap in debian but it behaves oddly in Arch, and xkb_symbols is a mess towork with.

Babby's first rice. It's still very much a work in progress. I've made some changes since. I'll update it when I get back maybe. One of those changes has been giving me massive headaches on desktop 4. Anybody else love a zenburn colour scheme? Most of it's copied from here, there and everywhere else with a few tweaks.

Arch, i3, urxvt, vim, bash.
Got a "new" desktop so it's a good time to experiment with some new soykaf. Only thing familiar is bash and vim. I could probably give zsh a whirl. It seemed interesting while I was using it to setup Arch.

>>561
Is that some yakuake? That was my favourite thing about using KDE, but it's been a long time since I've used it. I moved to xfce4 for the lighter weight and used xfce4-terminal as a dropdown, but it just wasn't the same.

Start with what version you're running. Windows XP - 8.1 can all be riced to varying degrees. Windows 10, on the other hand, you're still pretty much in the cold for now. Here's a link to help you get started: http://nanami-tan.info/

art=filepath screenfetch

or

screenfetch -a filepath

I just export the "art" environmental variable in my .zshrc for this beauty:
