Somewhat irrelevant, but… A lame "burglar" robbed someone and was confronted by the owner. As the burglar was fleeing, the owner noticed the guy'd dropped his chapstick, so the owner yelled to him "I HAVE YOUR DNA!"
The burglar returned and confessed, believing that he'd be turned in anyway due to his DNA on the chapstick.

Ghetto explosives are improvised right?
I'm looking to make some acetone peroxide (the less dangerous trimer) for fun. It's a shock sensitive explosive that can be made using acetone and hydrogen peroxide in acid. I need to get some concentrated hydrogen peroxide though (acetone and sulfuric acid are pretty cheap and easy to get). Anyone have any links of methods for concentrating run of the mill antiseptic hydrogen peroxide solutions? You obviously can't just boil away the extra water since the heat will decompose the hydrogen peroxide in the process.

Pepper spray is illegal in many places, backfires in tight spaces or heavy wind, explodes if it gets too hot, becomes useless against people who eat hot food or wear goggles and it won't kill people/bears.

Its melting point is slightly lower than that of water, but it it might be difficult to try and do a phase separation because solutes tend to depress solvent freezing points. I don't think you can get around this by saying H2O2 is volatile either since it doesn't have a high H2O2 vapour pressure, but has high pressure of decomposition products. Even if all of this turned out not to be the case, its pretty difficult to control temperatures down to 0.1 degrees C at least when working outside of a lab.

I made a small taser completely out of junk, with a scanner's CCFL inverter and a multiplier with 2 stages on either side. I used 222 caps taken from electronic junk. The output is 4-5kV at 2mA. The only thing I bought were BA159 diodes I had laying around, which are dirt cheap. It hurts quite a lot.

I don't get the open carry thing other than the dissuasive element, by flashing your gun around you lose the surprise element, the people you want to defend against will immediately identify you as the potential threat, so it'll be easier for them to kill you by surprise. Stay away from those practical scrap metal small arms PDFs unless you want to risk injury. The MAC 11 for example has a bolt about that weighs about half as much as it needs to for it to safely fire standard pressure 9mm ammunition. Luty's SMG design works though seeing as they've actually arrested people who were armed with working versions, pretty sure there's even a video of a police officer test firing one that they confiscated, but it might be a different gun that I'm remembering.

Just finished a new taser. The cockroft-walton multiplier might not be the best way to get to the desired voltage, but it's simple and works just fine. I was thinking about writing an article for LZ3 about how I made it, I already have most of the writing part done, now I just have to add pictures and steps.
I still have to tweak it a bit, also it's been a long time since I charged the 9V battery, despite that, I measured the current at the output and it is around 7.1 milliamps short circuit, this is more than 3 times the current of a standard police taser.

Speaking of tasers, do you guys consider it would be safe to make a punching device with little spikes to carry the current? Some kind of power fist attached to a taser so that it only activates when you punch something.

I figure you would need to leave as little space as possible between the spikes to avoid having a large electric arch giving you the stun. And everything else should be extremely resistant and should insulate your skin from the electronics. Would that be enough?

You mean this.
It doesn't seems too doable since the case would need to be extremely tough an the electronics packed in a tight space.

Not exactly. Imagine that the actual taser was strapped to your arm and you had some cables extend the current to your knuckles. The electronics would be safe from the beating and you could make it so that it only activates when punching something. I'll draw something later and updload it, maybe it'll be clearer that way.

Power fist lainon here. Image related is a crude design of what I meant. Let me explain it a bit:

The left part is what would be the "fist". You can see it's attached to the knucles. Inside the box there are two spikes that will be the ones delivering the charge and a red button that will activate it. When you throw a punch at something, the non-conductive part on the left comes inside the bigger one, pushing the button and activating it. At the same time, the spikes are revealed and shock the punch receiver. Once you stop making contact, some springs separate the two parts of the box, releasing the button and therefore deactivating the taser. Also providing some protection for the spikes.

Also to be noted, the gray part separating the box and the knucles is some padding to relieve some pain. It's easier to punch foam than something hard like plastic.

The black box on the right is the actual taser with a battery inside, and it's connected so that the blue cable deals the blow and the green one activates it.

Considering this design: do you think it'd be safe to wield this? What changes would you make?

Nice, I didn't think about that, just machine a block of hard but non conductive material, add a microswitch going to the circuit and the high voltage cables coming from it going to the spikes. Make sure you use plenty of shrink tube and the appropriate voltage rated cables.

I also thought about doing a taser jacket, which is even more dangerous for the wearer, with exposed wires running down the sleeves and switches at the ends. Normally when somebody wants to restrain you they grab you by your arms, with this jacket that won't happen. The problem is you would need to insulate the whole sleeve and you might also want to put the exposed wires on the exterior so you don't shock yourself if you bring your arms too close to your body. Also it won't work when it rains for obvious reasons.

breaking boxes and defending yourself from an attacker are two different things. very slight differences in handling can make a huge difference.
