Hey lains, just wondering, are any of you in massive debt? How much in the shitter are you? What are your opinions on the nature of debt in general, or your debt specifically?

Also, attached book is very related.

Debt/economics general, I guess.

I'm in Junior year HS and I'm terrified of college debt but I have no idea how to avoid it

I got really sick then I broke my arm.
I'm around 40,000 in debt.
Then I'm a student so that's another 90,000....

In a bit over a years time I'll come out of uni with the equivalent of slightly over $81000 debt. With interest I'll never pay it back, but on the bright side it should be written off in my mid 50s.

15k, which really isn't that bad, considering.

Get a votech degree at a community college. If you don't fuarrrk around and actually graduate in a year and half, you'll probably only get like 4k in debt, assuming you don't have soykaf scores in school and on standardized tests.

Dude what? Where are you from?

I live in a shithole of a country, and even we have free healthcare and higher education.

Ironically, all the students that get the most debt are in G7 countries...

No debt. I did stupidly buy a 30k car at 19 but that's paid off now.

I dropped out of community college. Squandered my grants and now that I'm back at it again I have to pay for it on my own but at least I have a chance.

>>18857
Dude, if I had the perspective I do now I would do what >>18862 said. Do something either industrial or that you know exactly what you're doing like electrician because you'll be employable right out of the gate.

Afterwards you can decide if you want to go back. Trust me, aside from like engineering and medicine no other degree has a definite path to take.

I will be borrowing money soon, how worried should I be about this? It always just seemed like part of life and something everyone has so it didn't really ever bother me.

that's what they WANT you to think. don't let them pull the veil over your eyes.

yes, debt is a tool. but it is a tool that is taken very lightly and is dangerous.

tread lightly.

No, thankfully not. I'm going to college in Germany, where I'm paying 1/100 in tuition of what I would be paying in the USA.
Opinion on debt in general: Avoid loans at all costs (no pun intended). I know of at least half a dozen people who got fuarrrked over simply because of mass-layoffs. Things like student-loans can't be defaulted upon. Overall, debt is like kicking dead whales down the beach balls, and people should stop buying into the american dream. hard work doesn't guarantee success and financial stability and independence. Loans will more often than not just end up biting you in the ass.

I live in Australia. I did have a 8k debt to my welfare people because they pinned an issue on me. But since back then I had no way to pay it off, they "deferred" it. And the last time I checked some really, really nice anon at the welfare must have seen it and wiped it off my account. There's no history of the debt existing, or will exist. (I love you centrelink <3) but I work now so I'm not a societal leech anymore.

Obviously the most free and democratic country this world has ever known.
The country where the government cares more about Israel and ancient dinosaur water than their own citizens.
The country with more aircraft carriers that the rest of the world combined.
That country.
