Is it possible to get a decent car for $800-$1000?

Something like an old honda or toyota that'll be fairly reliable and easy to work on?

I need a car but I'm a student and don't really have that much to spend. Most I'd consider spending on the car would be 1000$. I have around 2000$ saved up towards the car, but I'm going to keep the other 1000$ as an emergency rainy day fund in case the car breaks down or I need to buy parts.

Thoughts?

>>18699
yeah you can get a running car for 1000$ but there is usually something on it that will need replacing. Say the tires or maybe an alternator. Id rather spend 2000$ if the car has had some stuff checked/fixed/replaced.

How is no one posting the most /cyb/ vehicle of all?

>40 bucks for a month pass.

>blend in and out of crowd
>get to hack mega corps instead of focusing on the road
>not paying mega corp insurance companies
>just wear your hood up and the bus cameras won't be able to tell who you are
>no city cameras on every building looking at your license plate.

I think one of the more common recurring images in cyberpunk is how there's such a diversity of strange people on the streets in every day life. And you really get that vibe on the bus. More so I think than just walking down the sidewalk.

That being said.... yeah... It's not always pleasant company.

The most /cyb/ vehicle is something that has been heavily modified to fit the unique needs of someone with a set of fairly fringe priorities. Reliability, user- and field-serviceability, and customizability are what you should be looking for. Stock configurations are the anti-/cyb/, and that's what really disqualifies the expensive and temperamental sports cars people have been posting.

I dunno, my dad gave it to me, he claims that its transmission broke so the mechanic put in a Honda one. I don't know that much about cars so I can't really give you specifics or definite confirmations. It's a 94 Hilux with a stick-shift, no electronic components except the sound system(which is also upgraded).

Wouldn't a cyb car have to be old enough to not include any of the new electronic spyware bull soykaf in it? Pretty much anything old and salvageable that gets you from A to B. I support the idea of mopeds being considered /cyb/ though, they cost essentially nothing in comparison to a car, and a poor hacker in a low life setting won't really have many belongings to drag around besides a portable computer. And I see no reason such a person would regularly travel long distances.
