Hey lains, just wondering, are any of you in massive debt? How much in the shitter are you? What are your opinions on the nature of debt in general, or your debt specifically?

Also, attached book is very related.

Debt/economics general, I guess.

Obviously the most free and democratic country this world has ever known.
The country where the government cares more about Israel and ancient dinosaur water than their own citizens.
The country with more aircraft carriers that the rest of the world combined.
That country.

The child porn sites are a lot more prevalant on the clearnet. I'd honestly rather have pedophiles protected by Tor than have them view it on the clearnet and run the risk of the site being found by somebody unaware or ending up arrested/raped in prison.
Unfortunately, reforming or reconsidering laws to better fit public interest isn't as high-priority as prosecuting people who might as well be living buzzwords (pedophiles, terrorists, vandals, thieves, ideological extremists).

What kind of /cyb/ stuff can I add to make it more useful?

Thanks, I also found the options in the PirateBox app itself (I am not so familiar with this phone) and you can change a lot of stuff there.

I've included some downloads for i2p and the TOR browser bundle as well as some documentation pulled from the site for offline viewing to help people along. Seems like a good thing to try spread.

Cool interface OP. How much traffic have you seen on the piratebox?

>>18730
This gives me an idea. It would be simple to write a python script to monitor a directory for file changes, then upload new files to virustotal for analysis. Gonna put this together tonight for fun. For a piratebox, it would be a matter of taking output from the python script and writing it to the page for each upload so users can click a link to the appropriate report.

Not applicable in OP's case since he's using a cell phone, but good for linux-based pirateboxes.

He doesn't need a psychologist. What made you think lying is wrong anon? It's just popular opinion and not even one that most people actually follow. They'll tell little lies that they think they can get away with, without even thinking about it really, the only real difference is you've realized you're able to get away with a lot more than people realize.

And when you describe it being boring otherwise - is it really wrong to lie for the sake of entertaining yourself? A lot of humor relies on lying, making people believe whatever bull soykaf just for a laugh.

I wouldn't lie to people who trust you. I mean, without 'revealing' the lie, like when you make it clear you're joking with your expression or just coming out shortly afterwards. Otherwise, I don't see the problem.

It is stressful because there is a stigma against 'liars', people tend to think in terms of 'bad apples'. If you do one bad thing, you're probably simply bad in general. If you lie, you'll probably cheat steal and kill, too. I think it's rooted in the idea of sinners.

But for most cases, there's little actual consequence to be found out you told a lie. Who takes that seriously? With an acquaintance, they'll be annoyed with you, but it's mostly confused why you even bothered. Like, why did you say you were born in Russia when you weren't? It's just an odd thing to do.

In this culture of moral relativism (e.g. "don't label people, you bigot!") it is difficult to construe individual actions as good or bad.

I'm aligning more with some kind of moral pragmatism these days: what's good is what works. Of course what "works" depends on your goal, so not documenting your code is still bad, if your goal was to have someone else understand it easily.

>>

 No.19047

>>19042
>what's good is what works
that doesn't work because it doesn't analyse the end goal's moral weight. also it must mean it if something does not work it cannot be moral e.g successfully raping your sister to death is more moral than messing up a sudoku puzzle.

As much as I want to be a recluse I have close normie friends who use Facebook and schedule events on Facebook. So I got an account for the sole purpose of private events and groups which I use through Tor at home.

I also use it on my phone though orweb with orbot. But the mobile website is impossible. So my plan is:
1. Get the app.
2. Firewall it with afwall
3. Block everything with CMs privacy guard feature
4. Bridge it with Orbot.

My concern is that CMs privacy guard will be insufficient and Facebook will still send personal data to its servers that I don't approve of.

Telegram is cloud-based, which means the authorities can easily request all that metadata to be streamed right into their hands just by saying the magic word: "terrorist". In other words, it's a honeypot, just like Skype. Anyone who knows anything at all about security knows that you can't trust servers that aren't under your physical control, even if the data is encrypted.

>Give it time and it won't be around anymore.

Perhaps, but could the same not be said for previous social media outlets such as MySpace, and (God forbid) Geocities? Though Geocities is a different sort of case, the principle remains the same - if the Facebook giant is ever snuffed out, there will always be the next best thing for the masses to latch on to. I think the issue of always being a step aside of social media will always be a thing considering that Facebook is very unlikely to be the last megaservice. From a standpoint of ethics, it may be more beneficial to seek an alternative, as opposed to playing the waiting game.

I personally think that if Facebook ever gets the boot, LinkedIn would swiftly pick up the remains. But then again, who knows. Considering the sheer size and market share of Facebook, >>18801 isn't too conceivably far off with a 20-year estimate.

What would a society with 100% free speech be like? How would they manage, for example, death threats over e-mail or something similar? In theory, the person sending the mail is in their right of expressing themselves that way, but should that person be detained, or investigated, for threatening another person? Wouldn't that violate their free speech rights? On the other hand, if violent threats are not moderated, they could lead to becoming true. How would they handle situations like this? How would the society be like overall? No need to be realistic, just theoretically discuss this. Reality is soykaf and that of course isn't possible these days.

I never "posed" as anything.

>as soon as democracy is mentioned you revert to "mob rule", as if organized labor wouldn't have the structures to mitigate this.

The fact that democracy has to be "mitigated" is evidence that democracy is bad. In a democracy, everything important, whether it be a necessary maintainance of infrastructure, defense against foreign threats, or the rights of citizens, has to be placed outside of the influence of democracy. The alternative of "mitigated"(ie fake) democracy is mob rule. Ben Franklin knew that.

I never said anything about scarcity.

>in messy reality these systems don't actually exist. they're abstractions any way you cut it

There's no difference between saying "in reality it's all the same", and "in reality, they don't exist". If two things don't exist, they are the same.

So thanks for agreeing with me.

We would see a resurrection of ideology; people who get ass enragement from the idea of lies/slander being peddled are really just afraid of the media losing control of information. When there is a diversity of opinion, it's easier to identify which "truths" are false.

How can we resist the growing, global police state architecture? Should we write new software - libresoftware to promote privacy? Lainons, we should start a project to promote privacy either promote how to be more secure with information or start projects to help people become private. We could start web rings, or gather together people to start a mesh net, or embark on a journey of teaching those willing to listen NetSec, IT, programming, and crypto. But how will we start, Lainons? Webrings? Mail lists? Meeting in person?

Tech ignorance doesn't help. Some people just don't have the need to retain enough tech skills or understanding to affect their daily lives.

How about not setting up meetings, but having signs. Ones hidden in pop culture. The wondrous part of global police architecture is the fact that its base it more bureaucracy then anything, and bureaucracy is really good at half assing it. A lazy government is a good target as all bureaucracy become. So we just hide in plain sight. Make codes with series of images, or even just the right image in the right spot. Like a smiley face sticker in the right hand corner of a laptop, except exactly 1 cm away from the corner. Something that shows but will slip past bureaucrats.

I'm preparing to live homeless, lainons. Both out of choice and out of need - the "need" part isn't relevant right now, I'd like to focus on what I want: living independent of the grid.
Most of us know the basics of supporting yourself: trash picking, social engineering, use of local homeless resources, etc. But what about still maintaining access to technology?

My plan so far has been abandoning my smartphone for a burner kept inside of a radio-proof wallet or an Altoids tin or something (oldschool Nokias could fit very comfortably inside one). Then a Raspberry Pi with wi-fi dongle, TFT screen, and keyboard/mouse could act serviceably as a much cheaper laptop for programming, online purchases, etc. with the ability to function as more (a wardriver, for example, as has been pointed out in another thread). An oldschool MP3 player would be nice, too, since I've got several gigabytes that I still enjoy listening to.

Anyone here experience homelessness at one point or another? How did you do it? Are P.O. boxes a good choice for having things shipped to? How much information does one have to divulge to obtain one and are they heavily monitored?

Today it hit me, and I wept for the first time in so long. Nothing made me feel so guilty as this day.

My very life as an unhealthy consumer citizen of the First World designates me as a walking human rights violation, and therefore my existence itself is likely the most wasteful and worthless thing on the face of this beautiful blue planet. My worth hit me, the crushing weight of my neglect for you collapsed my legs beneath me, and I just wept. How can any consumer here truly be free of sin? How can any person, of any race really be okay with the price somebody else has to pays for what we have here?

I am so sorry that I exist, everybody. I am so sorry that I exist, beautiful Lainanons. My love will always hurt you, eventually somehow. Maybe not now, but when our Earth is completely dead and gone from the sea of plastic and the global warming cataclysm, this is my apology for not understanding sooner.

It doesn't make everything okay, but I hope my apology helps you find out what you're here for today.

Today I looked at my hands and realized the blood they had on them. The past can never be scrubbed completely clean, but today my soul feels reborn and a great weight has been lifted. I feel like I have a purpose. I don't feel empty anymore.

We are alive and I love you. I'm going to try to help as much as I can, despite my self-loathing for the price others pay for me to stay here.

Will you help however you can, too?

i dont, my biggest evidence for people being incapable of suicide is that I myself am. yes i know how that sounds.

so in your case i would then make the assumption that you still arent thinking things through or arent understanding what death will entail. the other third possibility with suicide cases which i didnt mention was that being genetically defect could render a person capable of suicide. i mean that not in a bad way either, i really do just mean that the person was somehow not wired with this strong sense of perseverance.

again i know how much this sounds like im just making exceptions for every case that doesnt go with what i think. but i will say again that i believe this because I know myself, who has thought about suicide and contemplated it so much, is completely unable to commit suicide no matter how hard i try. id argue that the act of me arguing with you is just my brain rationalizing this irrational need to survive by any means necessary.

its funny because this isnt even as stretched or the farthest i take these views. i actually believe people cant even contemplate that they will truly die by natural causes. they always want to leave an impact on the world, or have kids, or "do something with their life" which i see as a way to extend their life past death which is impossible without actually extending your life past death, or so i believe.

i do know these are just my beliefs though. I also dont read much and i dont really borrow from anywhere, most of this is just from me walking my dogs and thinking. my point being that maybe if i read a bit more philosophy and what not i might be able to argue my points better and come up with better explanations.

OP here.

I'm glad this conversation is still here and the majority of it are thinking seriously about it.

When this revelation hit me, I honestly did weep. I was doing some work outside and just thinking when it happened. I realized how truly small and powerless that I was. It's been a couple months since then, and I still do feel small and powerless. But I also feel more brave, like I can take control of my situation, if not necessarily rein in the world toward a more empathetic will. I've realized that you can be small, but you still can set an example for others to follow. There's been this enormous cycling of my morals and ethics and... people have noticed.

I've stopped dressing to impress, and only wear what I find comfortable or personally interesting. If my hands are idle I will busy them in service of another human being, not for profit or recognition, but for the simple joy of seeing them smile. This includes cleaning my friend's homes, playing party dad and keeping stupid drunk college kids safe, treating even insects respectfully despite their lack of ethical capacity. Standing up and calling out bull soykaf with my voice, AND my actions. Lying is a thing of the past. Cheating is despicable.

It is in our best interest to be honorable, kind, and firm. We fuarrrk up sometimes, but that's human nature. We move on.

Be a light, Lainchan, even among the lowlifes. Be your best.
