Is anyone else recording music at home?

I've been trying to record my guitar plugging it into a laptop's mic input but couldn't get rid of a chirping sound, tried the same with my keyboard but it would send a lot of noise even when the instrument was turned off. Files related.
Aside from those two problems, it seems like home recording wouldn't be that expensive or difficult.
My setup: Yamaha keybord from 1985, a cheap ass guitar, low end laptop and audacity or ardour. -

"I had a pretty /cyb/ idea for a project that we could possibly work on together. Making some fiction, art, or multimedia stuff. I was basically thinking about some of Google's projects and what their possible long term goals could be. I ended up connecting the dots in a kind of plausible way.
The idea is centered on Fiber being a plan to create infrastructure to leverage software as a service. Google will buy out industry standard software companies and incorporate photoshop, autodesk, maya, etc. into the Google drive suite. With the 1GB/s throughput, all the software can execute nearly entirely server-side, making for uncrackable DRM. Because of this, having a good computer is now obsolete. All you need is a cheap chromebook to connect to software services. At this point Microsoft and Apple have pretty much had their market niche desecrated, and are acquired as subsidiaries. Intel and AMD quickly follow suit, since the only people who need good processors are developers and engineers. At this bleak point it looks like Google has an absolute monopoly in the tech market, and will probably just keep growing. Facebook and other social media are likely targets. Letting imagination run wild, I can imagine a Google Party running for office in the US. We've basically set the stage for a cyber-punk dystopia within the next 25 years.
There are tons of great narrative possibilities with this. Imagine criminal warez groups that break into company headquarters to try to steal executables and personal data. Linux users and free software may become culturally associated with terrorism because of their opposition to proprietary software. A sub culture of freedom fighters emerge who scavenge and trade black-market components for their machines and coordinate secretly via p2p, creating and sharing illegal software and data.
Definitely could make for some good graphic novels and short stories. I'd like to see concept art and mock propaganda posters or things like that too. Flesh out the idea."
At the moment we're mainly looking to develop things further. A few new ideas have been introduced about the setting, but we're not dealing with anything concrete yet. I think we decided that the first thing we'll do is work individually on some concept pieces. Short stories, fake news articles and propaganda, art and music. If you think you can do something that will fit, make it and show it to us. We want to get a sense of atmosphere and themes that we can work with. Afterwards, we'll collaborate to make something as a community.
Maybe someone will write a short story, and then if other lainons like it, we'd work with the author to adapt the concept into a longer novel or comic. We could group up into our own sub-projects, or, at some point we could have a main project that everyone can work on.
Once we have some solid examples of the directions that we want to take this, we might build our own canon that could be used as a setting for our work. In IRC we've already discussed a bit of this: one lainon brought up that different regions of the US could be under different levels of corporate control, with differing factions, and things like that. I feel like this would be a good way to allow everyone to explore and work on ideas that are interesting to them, without having it conflict with the setting. People could collaborate on very interconnected stories and chronologies, but also be able to write about something significantly different taking place elsewhere in the country, without having the stories conflict.

Is MAD making considered an artform to you? And if it does, what aspects of them qualify one as a piece of art instead of parody gone nuts?
In my opinion I don't know where the boundary is drawn considering there is no scholarly subset of the MAD making community. I have no idea what that would entail or even operate as but seeing how each language community has been coming together in its own way to critique each other and help to those new to the craft shows that such a thing is possible.

Audacity
An image program that can save as TIFF such as Adobe Photoshop or Gimp (mspaint doesn't work well for some reason)
What to do:
>convert the image to .tiff or .tif format in GIMP
>open it up in audacity by starting a new project and importing it as raw data (you HAVE to pick A-law as an option when importing)
>play the track
>cool crackly noises
Now let's fuarrrk this bitch up:

>apply echo, reverb, wahwah, phaser, normalization, noise reduction, anything you fuarrrk ing want

In modern versions of OpenGL, you start with a load of data points, and transfer them all to your graphics card. These are called vertices. These points usually contain an x, a y, and a z co-ordinate in 3d space, but they're not just limited to that - they could, in addition, store the temperature of a room at that point, or the direction and intensity of the flow of air.
Once we've uploaded our data to the graphics card we can run a program on each of the individual data points. Programs that run on the graphics card are called shaders and have to be written in a special shader language. In the case of OpenGL, that language is called GLSL.
A program that modifies individual vertices is called a vertex shader. Imagine one that randomly changes the x,y, and z values of a point ever so slightly. If you ran it on a 3d model of a ball (constructed out of triangles) the surface of the ball would get all bumpy as the points began to get out of line.
This program is run once on every data point.
But I care more about the second type of program you can run on a graphics card - fragment shaders.
At some point in the process of going from data on the graphics card to an image on your screen, all the perfectly straight lines and perfectly smooth circles that you might have told the computer to draw have to drawn on a square pixel grid. This is called rasterization.
In the process of going from basic input data to pixels on a screen, there's an intermediate stage where data is transformed into units containing all the information required to rasterize that part of the screen correctly. These are called fragments.
But we don't even care about that part. Because here's what you can do: Tell your graphics card to draw a rectangle whose corners are in the top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right corners of you screen. That causes only one fragment to ever be created, the size of the screen. Then, you can write a program that takes position in the fragment, along with a few other variables, such as the time that's passed since you started running, or perhaps a microphone input, and spits out the value of the pixel to be drawn at that point. When you set it up that way, each point in the fragment corresponds to one pixel on your screen. With the above setup, you can see why fragment shaders are sometimes known by another name - "pixel shaders".
So now, with the advent of WebGL, a graphics API that runs in the browser, anyone can write programs that generate colorful and interesting animated visuals and share them with other people. By figuring out how to write the effect you want as a single function taking in position and time and outputting the r,g,b values of the pixel at that point in space and time, you get to run that program in real time and see the effect happen before your eyes.
So maybe check out pixel shaders over at shadertoy (https://www.shadertoy.com/). You can also output sound as well, but I haven't tried that yet.
