It's about Lain Iwakura, a Japanese exchange student who transfers to MIT. When she arrives, she meets none other than her classmate RMS. They develop a complex, almost abusive relationship with interesting dynamics.

Thanks for showing the error! How did it appear? Just as soon as you started the game, or did you have to do something?

I've a vague idea of what's caused it but I'm not entirely sure. The only thing that possibly could from the error is importing the python module "webbrowser".

I'm inclined to call it a RenPy issue

I was talking to Steve Jobs and right before you get the "thank mr skeltal" option I tried to save the game. I was thinking it might be a privilege problem, but I launched it with the .sh script from terminal so it should still be able to save/modify/create files..

Trying to recreate the error; I can save right after starting the game - no problem, but saving while talking to Jobs froze the game just now

Okay, thanks. I found a forum post with someone who has the exact same error, and it was down to the fact that they imported a library after the game has started (which I've did). So I'll just move the import to the init block.

Make it retro, in the 80s so its not quite so creepy.
RMS was still young and ripped by then, Linus still in university (if its the late 80s) and you could include all the lore about Lisp machines and Symbolics vs. whatever the other AI enterprise was named.
Include Steve Jobs as young, good looking but dumb-as-bricks design fetishist and his sidekick wozynak (idk ho hes spelled).
Thats already 4 different characters for Lain to possibly romance.

Also, assuming you are indeed tech-savy and not just another memelord, include tons of technical information and trivia about that time and the technologies behind Lisp, Lisp machines, Emacs, AI, GNU and UNIX.

It would be something like "The Visual Novel guide to computer science" (similar to "the manga guide to...")

If you need more information about this time, you should really read "Hackers, heroes of the computer revolution"
