I am starting my Bachelor's project on IT stuffs in a small team (4 guys) soon and we wanted to have a little project going on the side.
We don't have an idea yet on what to do, so I wanted to ask you guys, what computer related problem/wish do you have that you have not yet found a good solution for?
Or do you have an idea on a program that needs to be improved on or that does not yet exist? We would want to open source it.

Good way to save website for offline viewing. Completed independent html files from any sites like full js etc.

We already have a good tool for that, it's called wpull. https://github.com/chfoo/wpull

It's what The Archive Team uses, and I have personally found that it has better results than what the Wayback Machine produces.

Perhaps though, and intuitive gui might be useful, or a firefox toolbar button or something.

this really does sound like a good idea. when the user is on a website he just clicks the icon of the browser plugin and it saves the page, so when the user is offline he can just still enter the webpage and see it.
its simple but probably very useful! thanks :)
any other ideas?

It already exist in a lot of forms. Evernote has this ability, for example.

Same. I downloaded several sites with wget the other day.

Maybe you can search in the AI field, IMO there's always good things to do with AI.

I don't know if this exist, but if you could make an extention that takes uncited text from a webpage and finds a scholarly artical with the same or similar text. I'd be greatful.

How do I save wget output as PDF?

A terminal application that handles json in a similar way feed readers handle rss feeds.

I think a browser extension with some cheap way of connecting into the Tor network that saves articles on paywalled sites then uploads them to a big database for people to view somewhere would be awesome. It would keep things cheap and make it difficult to prosecute individuals and the site itself.
You could try the approach that Darkode uses now with the way that everyone who connects to the site goes in through an individual entry note so that it's easy to identify leaks.

> browser stuff after browser stuff
Projectst that need to be done:
> Arduino Lisp
not the project named ArduinoLisp but an independent lisp for the arduino platform
> i2p implementation in C/C++
Help work on i2p without java
> Scheme GPIO library for RPi/BeagleBone
none yet
> Open source computer
another isn the field but built as a tutorial to building your own (made for pre uni level)
> patches to OpenBSD to fix USB 3.0 audio device issues
really needed
> Decent android scheme repl
most are horrible
> EE book for pre uni students
circuits printed with conductive ink to make it easier for students to learn (and interactive)

Also would be nice if you have clean documentation (OpenBSD is a good example)

A good PDF to ePub converter. The ones I tried were horrible: they can't detect and ignore headers and footers, for example.

Sure, have these:

Tag-based link database. I tried making booru software into this at site-links.booru.org, but I'm thinking one that does away with hosting images could be more responsive.

Zzstructure based discussioon boards. Like any other text or image board, but using concepts from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEj9vqVvHPc to have conversations take place in a grid of multiple dimensions. This would prevent thread drift by allowing different topics to split off in unlimited directions and connect arbitrary structures. I think this might leave some issues as to deciding when a post ought to fall off the board, but I think it could be interesting.

Voting system like strawpoll but for voting systems other than first-past-the-post. Approval voting and single transferable vote in particular sounds like it'd be good for a lot of informal choices.

Fucking this. I tried using some so I could play along with SICP on the train home, but the state of these is pure soykaf .

Actually, I guess strawpoll has approval voting, just not single transferrable vote or instant runoff vote.

A javascript proxy

proxies a request, runs all JS in a transient sandbox, using it to render a final DOM, then deliver pure html+css to the client with no JS

epub, mobi, pdf organizer like beets for music. Calibre is like kicking dead whales down the beach dude. It doesn't even have to be gui, commandline with nice search is more than enough
